I'm a huge Jules Verne fan. So one of my favorite Sci Fi movies is 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It's an oldie but it's always been one of my favorites. I'm getting excited about the new release of Mysterious Island. It has The Rock in it and should be coming out in February. I'm also going to watch the SyFy channel's version (www.julesvernsmysteriousisland.com) and probably have a Mysterious Island party! Anyone want to join?

The Avengers was the best Si Fi I've seen since the first STAR WARS. It's that epic.

Most movies listed in this thread I don't consider even remotely science fiction. Having said that I think 2001: A Space Odyessy is the best sci fi film.

if you have any interest at all, in action/adventure, or comics, guardians of the galaxy is THE movie to see.
i don't have much interest in either. i'm frequintly inclined to cut them very little if any slack.
i was NOT dissapointed in this one. i was very much surprised in a very positive way.
i'm not saying everything about it is possitive, but dam, it is one hell of a fun ride.
and i really doubt anyone who sees it, will be dissapointed.

science fiction narrowly defined, i seriously question anything to come out of the movie media falls entirely within it.
marvel of course prints comix. which means non-stop over the top action.

that doesn't preclude memorable and mostly believable characters.

forget 'star lord' though, whome they allow to pretend to be led by. this is rocket and groot's show all the way.
even if it is star lord we are furst introduced to.
like all good role play, this is an ensamble performance.

for my money though, from the moment they first appear, it is rocket and groot's show all the way.
and that's just fine with me.
