Star Wars (All) Blade Runner Dark City Close Encounters of the Third Kind The Abyss Predator(first One) Aliens(2) Star Trek First Contact Gattaca Dune Jurassic Park 12 Monkeys Time Bandits The Running Man Fifth Element Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(Not Sure if that's Sci Fi)
i take sci fi broadly as category. psychological suspense and other-world happenings included. these kinda blew my mind cause i can honestly say the first time i saw em i didnt get em, and 2nd time only a bit more. so maybe i'm slow or what. i dont like to be scared silly by a movie, can only take so much suspense, like ambiguity but not nonsense. vanilla sky--sorry,still dont really get the point signs--need and want to see again loved blade runner, havent seen directors cut or uncut, cant wait close encounters i got 1st time, liked alot 6th sense other m night shamalan stuff but not the village more but cant think of em now michaela fraze
movies i like? that's hard...i like a lot of sci-fi movies. let's try: -first someone mentioned babylon 5, that's a superbe movie, it really is a science fiction, becouse most sci-fi now are more fiction then science, and babylon 5 crusade was cool too -stargate sg-1 and atlantis (but not stargate the movie becouse it didn't have richard dean anderson's unique input, his humour -startreck the next generation (as a kid i allways admired the honour and the principles they had, especialy Cpt. Picard, i used to look up to them when i was little and i used to dream that our society is that honorable and full of principles, butt then i grew and...saw the real world..not plesant) -battlestar galactica (it got a little too prophetic for me but the special efects where off the grid, and i kind of liked the love stories that developed in the movie :">, maby i'm a little romantic ) -dune (all of them) i hope they make movies from all the books. -every one talkes about starwars like it is the holly greal of movies. for me it was a cute movie that's it allthow there are a lot more i better finish becouse noone likes to read a huge post
i've seen allmost all the movies you all have listed here, and i agree, of the ones i have seen they are quite good. but now i will list the sci fi movies that even dr. science would love. these are the parody sci fi movies: 1) attack of the killer tomatoes. (and all the other "tomatoes" movies.) 2) rocky horror picture show. 3) spaceballs. 4) jack frost 1 and 2. and my newest discovery... 5) monsturd.
I think Blade Runner and Brazil are the only sci-fi movies I could ever call "Brilliant" There are a lot of great sci-fi anime films that deserve a mention, in particular: End of Evangelion (and the entire Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series) Akira Nausicca, valley of the wind OH yeah, and I LOVED Dune, although I don't think I could sit through the whole thing again. The music by Toto was awesome.
scratch that, METROPOLIS is the BEST scifi movie, if you havent seen it.. you must. some say it was the birth of sci fi
Yes.. Brazil is a masterpiece. The scene when they have their heads in the machinery of his flat. Tuttle and Lowry. They hear a noise.. both heads turn like clockwork. i laughed myself silly. Yeh silly to laugh about but i thought it brilliant touch. Occam
last night i saw solyaris again, for the first time since 1977. there is a funny story about the first time i saw it. the movie was spoken in russian and when the captions along the bottom appeared and, were they in latin script... hell no, they were in cyrillic script (written in russian.) someone fucked up big time. ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! how this movie ever got made back in 1972 in, sovite russia had to have been a act of magic to make it happen. stanley kubrick loved this movie and, wished he had brought more of humanity into 2001: a space oddyssey as andrei tarkovsky did in solyaris. tarkovsky thought 2001 was great at the technology end but, lacked warmth. i wonder what 2001 would have been like if tarkovsky had made it and, kubrick had made soylaris? no matter; their both great sci-fi movies.
i'd add planet of the apes to that list.for charlton heston's acting"take your filthy paws off me,you damn dirty ape"something like that.
how about "a trip to the moon"based on the jules verne book.good book too.i think it was made about 105 years ago.you can see it on youtube and other places...and 20,000 leaugue under the sea" from the 19 teens.
