The best ever Science Fiction Movie to me has to be

SILENT RUNNING (German Title: Lautlos im Weltall)

maybe it is to me ´cos my cousin (12 years older than me) took me to see it at movies way back in 1974, when I was only 10 years old and it was the first ever "grown ups" movie I´ve seen in the movies. Before it was mostly cartoon stuff and things, or others but then on TV only.

I remember, an occasion at school only a few weeks later. Where we were to write an essay about a great wish we would have. I wrote about a bomb that would kill all human beings, but causes no harm to animals and plants....[IMG]
... my parents were asked to see the teatcher in school to report what was wrong with their 10 year old son, to write those kind of weird things[IMG] .
I told them, that I thought it was a grand idea, cos all bad things on earth are caused by humans... ... I think I couldn´t really convince them [IMG] .

Before I scare you off... I have now given up the idea, to kill all humans [IMG]

    Pronature69.

No worries..kill all humans then BAD itself will go away.
For the is no good and bad in the world without self aware beings.
Before we came along the was no good or bad...
It was as religion says,, a garden of eden.

    But think well first.
For without bad, there is no GOOD.
Good and bad only exist. Because we name them.

    Without self aware beings.
The universe will just roll along.
    Without any awareness.

It will have no good or bad...right?
    OR , love and compassion
    Fear and courage.
    Great poetry or art.
    No wonders of brilliant minds.
No sacrifice for the good of others...

Just a big mindless thing rolling along.
    Achieving nothing but its rolling.

The day the earth stood still

Still ranks just a hair ahead of the matrix.
The depth of concept and philosophy when revealed is
    amazing.
People talk like they really would about things they dont understand
in the ego agrandizing infallible way so many do..
and it makes you want to punch out the screen in frustration
    at our own race
Its the only movie occam knows of where aliens despair at our
    stupid acts and beliefs.
And we have no reply but agreement.

Has anyone alse noticed that the only reason humanity
survives in 'independence day' and 'war of the worlds'.

Is that the aliens are incredibly stupid?

war of the worlds was a good film... it focused more on the peoples reactions to lack of society more than on the war against the aliens. my least favorite sci fi film is probably star wars... im so bored of hearing about it, and i really dont see whats so great about it.
