woah woah woah woah. watch that fucking language. as a matter of fact I DO LIKE THE GRATEFUL DEAD. I'm wearing a dead shirt right now. I also do listen to a big fucking variety, however. psychedelic, rock, reggae, techno, trance, electronica, ambient/down-tempo, and occasionally some rap.

Haha the man can't even spell grateful like it should be

Electronica, IDM, techno, trance, etc. all take a load of talent. Creating ridiculous awe inspiring beats isn't just a walk in the park. Doom doesn't honestly say that much bullshit, he always finds a way to slip in the most cleverly worded lyrical attacks. The game on the other hand, lol. His flow is just weak as all hell. Doom'll rip a nigga in half.

I have to say this thread turned into the whitest thread ever. What is basically I can assume to be 90% white, suburban and stoned teenagers/young adults arguing over hip hop then over the Grateful Dead

Though not my favorite rap song ever, it's by far my favorite cover of a rap song, Nina Gordon's acoustic cover of Straight Outta Compton is probably the funniest thing ever

I'm a big fan of Dynamite Hack's version of "boys in the hood" I didn't realize it was meant to be ironic until I saw the video, I thought it was some kid in the ghetto with an acoustic guitar bucking expectations of urban youth -_-

pfft, race has a place in everything and you're ignoring it too much if you really think it doesn't. Why are Nina Gordon's and Dynamite Hack's cover of those 2 songs so damn funny? Because they're both 2 some of the whitest people in music and that's what makes it funny.

Race does not make a difference on the appreciation of music, and to say it does could be argued as a remnant of segregation, because I'm not "supposed" to listen to rap because I'm white.

Well, I've lived in a place that has exposed me to a lot of different people and lifestyles - should I not have been in that position because I'm white? I should be living in a nice house in a newly leveled subdivision, shouldn't I?

Seriously, if you are going to try and poke and make retarded comments about race, just get out of this discussion.

What kind of music do you like? There is more to rap than meets the...person that isn't into rap haha. I'm sure there is at least one song out there that you would like. My mom likes some of the rap I listen to cause it is real jazzy and whatnot

My top 3 will probably change later today but, as of right now, my top 3 would have to be as follows:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo5jaKppUCo
C-Mob-"Unleash Demons". This song is fuckin badass and consists of some very seamless lyricism.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SfJQtlNJUdw
Rehab-"What Do You Want From Me?". I would consider this to be rap/rock, and I've been bumpin the shit outta this lately.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nav5wZ7gjZU
Tupac-"Hail Mary(REMIX ft. Ludacris)". I usually don't like remixes, but this is almost better than the original, imo.

I think that's the first 2pac mention in this thread, about damn time

and nah see you said race played no role in music, and now you're changing it. You just know you like rap and making beats and like it a lot, and being white like all white people you must overcome you're natural goofy whiteness if you are to be fully accepted in the underground circle. Also you need to lighten up otherwise no one in any music circle except maybe gothic music will want you there

I like guitar music and bands that really know how to play their instruments. And I'm turned off by lyrics that reflect unenlightened values, like materialism and sexism.

obviously rap is very black dominated because it originated in black neighborhoods like queens, the bronx and brookland but so did jazz in new orleans and rock in various cities.

that doesn't mean that you HAVE to be black to appreciate the music or understand it. my "natural white goofiness" is an absurd comment, because you obviously don't know me or whether or not i'm goofy (i am, but i wouldn't attribute that to my skin color haha)

    just drop it again...

tupac has been mentioned many times. i've never personally gotten too into tupac or a lot of west coast genre in general. a little snoop, a little warren g, and some dre but nothing else really. i stick to a lot of underground hiphop and old old old school for a while

most of hiphop isn't even about shoot em up bang bang anyways, which is a huge misconception by a lot of older people and kids that hate on hiphop without knowing half of it. There is a HUGE crowd and following for conscious rap, and even The Roots play guitars and drums (and of course a sousaphone too!). The Roots are also one of the best out there. Black Thought is a GREAT MC and ?uestlove is probably one of the best drummers, certainly the best in hiphop.

The Roots - The Seed <- you might like this one
The Roots - Clones <- this is my favorite Roots song, and is a lot different

How about that? Dear mama is a fucking great song and a heartwarming tribute to 2pac's mom

my original was to go post Nothing but a G thang since I've yet to find a person who can't groove to that song, but I take it you might not like the whole "and now you hookers and hoes know how I feel" and such type lines
