Since virtual boy is not on there ill have to go with Snes. Many of the 3rd party and non main title games were nearly as quality as the main games for that console, most other consoles have had a few really quality title games and then a significant drop off in the rest of the games. Also, Sega Dreamcast is the most underrated video game system ever.
I vividly remember when we got the Pong game at the store I worked at in the late 70's. We played that thing constantly.
I remember my brothers getting a NES for chrimbo. oh the arguements it would cause, especially if I wanted a go on it. i also remember them having a Spectrum with its separate tape deck. Those were the days
I voted ps1/ps2. I've had them both and spent so many hours enjoying in high quality games like ISS1,2, PES 1,2,3,4...., GT 1,2,3,4....., GTA3, VC, SA.... Ahhh, good old times... I miss them... I'm not playing anymore. Oh, someone mentioned pinball, I love it. I'd like to add pool sports, too (8- ball,9-ball, snooker).
I would also vote N64 since that is the oldest console I have really enjoyed playing games on. Otherwise it was pc where I started with games like Blood, Hexen and Duke Nukem. I also played older games like Tetris and Prince of persia and had fun as a kid with an Atari but can't say those where such classic favs as Mariokart, Zelda: Ocarina of time and Goldeneye on N64 and those first person shooters on pc. Especially playing Blood when I was around 15, there was just nothing like that shit.
It was a hard choice between SNES and Windows 90/DoS systems. But I went with SNES though they are basically a tie for me. I loved playing Super Marior World and Donky Kong Country 2 on SNES But I've got some great memorys playing Doom I and Doom II on DoS.
Definitely SNES, and partly because of Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, and Link to the Past, 3 of the greatest games on any system ever.
I remember playing the original Nintendo in my cousins basement. There were like six of us all fighting for controllers. Oh the Duck Hunt days!
I have a PS3 right now. It's an old console, but I wouldn't call it "old school", so maybe it's not right for this thread. I'm a sucker for old consoles though. I liked the N64. There's this place in LA (or there used to be; I don't know what its status is) that had a whole bunch of legacy gaming stuff. It was their specialty. It's where I got my N64 when I had one. I've had lots of game consoles, but I think that was the only one that I would call "old school" or "vintage" or "legacy", etc.
I had some good fun games on Atari. I remember a submarine one. Like it was shit, Atari shit. But back then I got into it lol. I remember once it was raining so I pretended outside the house was a submarine and it was flooding. Then we took off on the car and that was my little escape pod.
I had the Sinclair ZX81. Am I right that this was from Spectrum?? It was great fun at that time, I was so happy with a moving white square on your tv-screen.
