Daisy, of white or brown rice, which do you think makes the better "cereal" milk? Or for dunking ginger snaps?
I usually have rice milk - it's about the same price as soy and I like that I can get it organic (rice dream is the brand I believe). I do make almond milk at home on occasion though, it's really yummy! There aren't any organic almond milk options at my co-op, but it's pretty easy to make at home. Almonds are spendy though. I've also tried oat milk, which is pretty good, and kind of thicker than rice milk. I've tried hazlenut milk and mixed grain milk once or twice as well, when they went on sale. There are tons of interesting milk varieties out there... Oh, and I almost forgot about my favorite (but very fattening, so I usually only use it in cooking on occasion): coconut milk! It's a bit too sweet to drink plain, but it's great for Indian and Thai food, especially dahl. Who needs cow's milk when there are so many alternatives?
So Good Soy Milk -- Vanilla or Chocolate. Wanna hear the crazy part? My cat LOOOOOOOVES soy milk. Anytime I have any, he tries to stick his head in the glass so he can get some. He gets so upset if I don't give him any.
i also love hazlenut milk i almost forgot...i love it on cereal...and yes bartarmama i also love coconut milk, and i buy it in light which has ALOT less calories and fat
I usually just drink soy milk because its everywhere. I like rice milk a lot too. I guess it depends what i'm gonna use the milk for. I usually just buy the big cases of those sealed pull tab type containers of Soy Dream. I go through one every two months or so. Its pretty convienient not to have to constanly buy milk like everyone else has to do. Also Soy Dream just changed thier flavor and I think it kicks some serious ass.
Nobody here is a 'milk expert'. It's just basic sense and understanding of the body. I quit drinking cows milk when it turned out my brother has been allergic to the stuff for years (the doctors just treated the symptoms). At that point we were getting soya milk and everything I just went for it. No sacrific as I never liked cows milk anyway. I've been weaned for twenty years (and breastfed before then) so I obviously haven't needed dairy to survive. The dairy industry is unethical. That and I still can't get my head around the idea of humans looking at cow and thinking it was good idea to drink their milk. I mean we don't exactly have much in common with cows; hence so many people being lactose intolerant. Seriously what's right about drinking cows milk?
my hubbys eyes swell shut when he drinks milk...about half of the people i know are allergic to cows milk...and why?..because its not natural nor normal to drink the milk from another species....those cows wouldnt drink humans milk yahno...and so forth and so on
