I like Mentation, a few friends / concert buddies play in there, it's a melodic black / death metal band, their CDemo "Circle of perpetual occultation" definitely rocks. Plus they have artwork by Kris Verwimp.
major peacenik, check out Surprise Me Mr. Davis: it's the Slip with one of my fave singer-songwriters: Nathan Moore. wow, local bands. I'm taking liberty of using the state. The Motet http://www.themotet.net/ KanNal (duh, saw that one coming) www.kannal.org Don Conoscenti, although he decamped for warmer climes http://www.donconoscenti.com/ Chip and the Chowderheads (yes, really) http://chipandthechowderheads.com.whsites.net/ some like Crispy Critters http://www.crispycrittersband.com/ Fret Knot, the band Benny Galloway is in, he wrote the music for an entire Yonder Mountain disc Shanti Groove http://www.shantigroove.com/ Tabla Rasa can be good Zilla/Zuvuya (Travis of SCI and Jamie Janover's band) Pete Wernick/ Hot Rize Honky tonk Home slice (Billy Nershi) Jamie Janover and from neighboring New Mexico, Nathan Moore & Tha Muse Meant now, the obvious local boys gone bigtime: SCI Yonder Leftover Salmon
JASPER! they fucking rock. and look good doin it. seriously, they ( and some other bands) put on a tsunami benefit that raised $3000 fromn a bunch of teenagers. ( they're all 17 and under too, but hey)
Last year i went to a lot of local music concerts and saw some bands but i only got hooked on a couple. The Mint is an awesome band i dunno if anyone ever heard of them. Also Emberfall is good too. usually you find the two of them playing together because the members are good friends. All the guys from the bands are really nice too. They put out great sound
Well, they're not exactly local from where I live, but they're from southern jersey and they've played in my town. Divinity Destroyed are awesome...and they just got signed to a label, so that's pretty cool.
Definately 'JoeyFat'. There's this place in Kent in Tunbridge Wells called 'The Forum' they're the house band as far as I know....They're brilliant.
the best local band i've heard in alabama, is called Electric Voodoo.. i saw them once in birmingham...they played the dead,ABB, Les Claypool, jazz, blues...all kinds of stuff.. the guitar player is amazing and he's only 17!!! if you're ever near here, u should check them out!! www.electricvoodooband.com
Sweet Little Bullet are pretty damn good. their site is www.sweetlittlebullet.co.uk Follow the links and you can hear some of their stuff
The best local band from here is Donna the Buffalo. Although they don't play very many local shows anymore! I remember when they used to all the time. We have our own festival that Donna started, but they stopped playing there, all the city kids found out about the festival and it becomes just a regular party with drunk assholes fighting, crying teenage girls, and the rest of us looking around asking ourselves what the fuck happened to a once great festival. anyway, I'm rambling. I miss Donna being a small local band.
my brother is in 2 rockin bands here in fond du lac, wisconsin. they are offend your friends and injured reserve. offend your friends is a punk/ska band while injured reserve is a super awesome emo band. check em out at http://www.myspace.com/offendyourfriends http://www.myspace.com/injuredreserve make sure to add them to your friends list at myspace
I hear you. we attend the shows, street team, photograph and write for FREE, build the following ...that takes the band somewhere else... I call it Colorado Syndrome: look at all the biggies we built abd now we gwt homecoming or NYE shows. Dammit, I don't WANT to see cheese at red rocks on July 4. I want to see them at Mountain Sun and the Mish!
I think that's what I've always respected about Ekooskic Hookah. They've pretty much kept it local in Ohio for their fifteen odd years together. Granted they are pretty big there, but you can still catch them in small bars too. The only downfall is that they really only play in and around Ohio. It would be nice if they hit the road a bit more and came up to VT.
I have some friends from Hamilton (near toronto) who have a band called "Speakermind"... they started out as a Blind Melon cover band but they're working on their own songs now.. They always kick some serious ass whenever they play. I've been to a few of their shows (here in Canada and in America) and I can't wait to hear them again.
Megan Lane.... *drools* Blues singer, I think she's 17 or 18 (not quite bar age here, at least), and has dreads. She has the most amazing voice ever though, holy crap... she sounds soooo much older than she is when she sings. She's got the whole semi-guttural bluesy voice down.
