Black sabbath is the best band by far. There on tour now for their new album the Dio years. on Vocals is Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi on Guitar, Geezer Butler on bass, and Vinny Appice on drums. Their new album goes on sale on april 3rd and there tour has already started.
If you call sabbath a metal band then it would be sabbath for me. With ozzy i don't think they were a metal band. but dio and on i might call them metal. they lost their expiremental nature when ozzy left unfortunatley... Great band though. JOn
I fully agree with your first three lines. Don't know about they lost their experimental nature though. But it sounded more like heavy metal in the end, that's for sure.
As far as newer bands go, I suppose I'd give my nod to Dimmu Borgir...though as far as all time goes, yeah, It's Sabbath
well what i meant by experimental was songs like Planet Caravan Air Dance Solitude Am I Going Insane most of Vol. 4 this stuff is different and imo more enjoyable than the straight doom and gloom metal Ozzy era had some doom and gloom but they didn't limit themselves to that. and after the dio era it's hard for me to listen to them because it's not the same. I have a few martin albums and it just sounds different. I hate to say i'm an ozzy boy but i can't find the same joy in the post ozzy/dio era albums. But still Iommi will always be a stupendous guitarist and he is definitely the core of sabbath. I also really enjoy Iommi's solo albums esp. Fused. that album is awesome and it's not doom and gloom. so that is fun. sorry for the rant JOn
Yeah, I agree with what you're saying. I also prefer Sabbath with Ozzy above almost anything else they did. Even Ozzy's and Iommi's soloalbums. I do like Dio's first three albums with Rainbow very much though. And Heaven and hell. But it's not the experimental doomy stuff which makes early Sabbath so special indeed.
well what makes the early sabbath special to me, i'm talking '69 to '70-1, is that they did the whole bluesy rock thing. and they incorporated that it to the early doomy stuff. The first album and live shows from that era. The first album i think will always be my favorite because of the whole sound of it. but then again it is so hard to choose. Never Say Die and Sabotage are up there too. And about ozzy i don't really like his solo stuff. i don't know why but i don't... and now his voice is shot to shit and i'm not liking him as a person either. He's been holding sabbath back for the past 10 years now and his whole additude to them is not really great. They were in the recording studio in 2001 and they haven't done anything with that. Ozzy has kept saying that they would finish the music but he doesn't deliver. And it won't even sound like the music from the '70s either. Hell when they annouced the Tour for Heaven and Hell, the same day Ozzy was like that's nice but we're gonna release that album this year. Thankfully he doesn't control the sabbath name though or we wouldn't be getting any music from them. JOn
I'm not waiting for any new music from them. They did their thing very good and they aren't going to do it again.
Well yeah. but still they said they were doing something so they should have gotten it done. the 3 new songs weren't good vocally and only okay musically. well scary dreams had some good music i think, but Psycho Man and Selling my Soul weren't that good. and i've only heard one of the new dio songs so the jury's still out on them. JOn
There are way too many for me to choose from but my top three would be Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Judas Priest
Quick correction... Ozzy/Sharon own the sabbath name, as per the agreement of the initial reunion. Ozzy refuses to release anything that doesn't stand up to their original stuff. Supposedly there have been other sabbath recordings that Ozzy won't release because he doesn't feel they're worthy. Some of the names have been copywritten though, and if you google something to the nature of unreleased sabbath tunes, I'm sure something will confirm this.
No, according to Joe Seigler who is the webmaster of black-sabbath.com, Iommi is the sole owner of the Sabbath name. The only reason they are going under the name of Heaven and Hell for this tour is so they don't cause any confusion. avoiding People thinking they are going Ozzy. and also to avoid the unspoken rule that at every black sabbath show they have to play Paranoid, Iron Man, and War Pigs. and dio never did good with the ozzy era songs anyways so good decision. Well, thats a definite change since 1997. Not that it makes any difference, they can say what they'd like to cover it, but it's quite obvious that if they used the name "Black Sabbath" Ozzy would have freaked out about it, and therefore ruining future endevors. So in a sense, Ozzy still has great control over the name.
