It's tie between oranges and cherries. Though cherries are best when in season and oranges you can get pretty much year round. Dang, grapes are good too. It's way too hard to choose just one.
I would eat a huge fruit salad with everything on this list, but raspberries are tops for me. They won't grow well here (our climate is too humid), so I have to buy ridiculously expensive ones from 1,000 miles away. I have heard that there are some hybrids that can take our climate. If so, why aren't local farmers growing them? I also love guavas but they don't ship well and unless you buy fresh-frozen, you would have to go to the tropics to find them. (I won't touch the green ones they try to sell in the gourmet section of the grocer. Hey, has anyone tried star fruit? I love it!!!
benzocoop, I never really care for pineapple 'cause I always ate it from a can with a bunch of sugar syrup or baked to oblivion in an upside down cake. But one day I was in a pineapple field in Hawaii and right in the middle of the field was a shack with a big sign welcoming tourists. Inside the shack was a refrigerator with plates of fresh-sliced pineapple from that morning's harvest. Wow! What a difference. It is obvious, but the closer to the place and date of harvest you are, the better things tend to taste. (possible exception of green bananas and pears tasting better after a few days to ripen).
