Happy father's day. My biological father has been gone since 1990. Anyone here celebrate?

If it’s any comfort people tend to spend 3 times more money on their Mother’s day gift, than on the Father’s Day gift.

Father's day is a Catholic holiday.

You really think no indigenous cultures over the last 300,000 years didnt have a special day of the year to honour either/both parents?

I think of my dad almost every day since he died, 2 days before fathers day... I put the unopened cards and gift in a hole in the garden.. what else was I to do?
That was 2005.. I miss him still.

It started that day but at least in the US its reach has extended far beyond Catholicism and is universally celebrated.

    celibate, not celebrate.

i like to think indigenous cultures were smart enough to honor people when they felt like it rather than forcing you to do it on specific dates. wishful thinking, i'm sure, but i still like to think it.

I went with my dad to a baseball game. Holly shit is that a slow and boring game. 5 hours and probably 90% of the time nothing is happening except the OCD rituals of the players. So many hats removed and put back one, spitting, walking in circles. These guys really need some sort of therapy.

OCD is a time honored tradition in baseball

Btw: an authentic Babe Ruth jersey just sold at auction for 5.64 million

It's the thinking man's sport. However, the reliance on sabermetrics/analytics has taken some of the dynamic aspects out of the game somewhat.

They tell me the same thing about the NFL when I say they just stand there and wait for the clock to tick down. It's a "chess game". I went to a bunch of baseball when I was a kid and the Rockies were new. I got old, wondered off and got high. I think my dad misses those games. At least he was happy.

The difference is football is like 90% strategy from the coaches vs 10% strategy from the players as where Baseball is much more a balance between players and coaches.

Here is a good example where the pitcher doesn't want the runner relaying signs to the batter, so he awards him a free base in order for the catcher to give him simpler signs so that he can be in his normal pace and rhythm.

But did you get ice cream in the little helmets?

I love baseball. Going to a baseball game always seems like such a nostalgic, innocent pastime
