I'm not sure how many days I should do a true fast. It isn't for religious reasons, it's more of a digestive treatment.

I've already started and I'm on day two but I feel like I should do more. My appetite isn't roaring but of course I want to eat. Anyway, my question is .. after some fasting, however many days I end up doing, what should I / should I not eat? I'm so conflicted because I want cheeseburgers but I don't want to bomb my belly after fasting. That would be silly.

What kind of digestive problems are you having? You might want to try eliminating some things from your diet. Dairy and gluten are two of the major culprits when it comes to digestive problems. Also perhaps consider taking a good probiotic supplement.

Oh, boy, I have stories about fasting.....

A gallon of heavy salt water to make you sit on the toilet excessively...followed by a day of tea with cayenne pepper and honey or maple syrup and lemon and senna, and nothing else...Try that one for 14-21 days.....OUCH!

You get cleaned out and very thin in 2 weeks on top if it. It was some fast a friend of mine read about, so I did it twice. It is pretty brutal, though.

I'm still recovering from some serious dehydration .. I had no idea dehydration could be so dangerous. I drink a ton of coffee but have already cut way back on it and increased my water intake. I eat mostly basic stuff - chicken, soups, sandwiches - not a lot of dairy at all. I'm a very inconsistent eater but that's probably because of my coffee addiction :(

WOW that's intense! I actually might try that but what's senna?

Senna is a natural herb you can buy at Health food stores in their herb and spice bins that is.... let's say what xlax does.....

I will see if can find my notes tomorrow and see what this fast is called exactly, as you might see it online if it has a name.

What I would like to do is make fasting a regular part of my eating habits. Maybe twice a month I think would be good. I have a feeling I'm not going to make it to day three but I'm gonna let myself off the hook just by promising myself that I'll do at least a 2 day fast, twice per month. Or maybe I need to think it through some more, I don't know.

You should look into intermittent fasting.

When coming off a fast avoid any fatty rich food to start with. Fruit salad is good to start with.

I went with Naked blue machine juice smoothie and a roast beef sub (bread, dry, roast beef, romaine lettuce, tomato). And a pickle spear. I was worried that the sub would feel too heavy after an empty stomach for two days but it was okay. Today I had a croissant, almonds, chocolate covered raisins and oatmeal with brown sugar & cinnamon. And lots of water.

I definitely want to do more fasting.. like, routinely. What a mistake to take digestive health for granted! I think dehydration did some GI damage :(
