more than half a decade ago, i worked in fast food for 3 years. i was an excellent employee with perfect attendance, never sick, never late, cross trained, etc. i wasn't making enough to survive, and boss wouldn't increase hours or give raise or bump me (or anyone) up to supervisor or anything. and just when i was really getting broke he threatened to cut hours.... and then turned around and would hire people and take from our hours. so i started throwing away the applications, all of them, everyday. and nobody lost their hours.
well, in terms of company profits, it would be bad. to some degree it's bad for the applicants. sounds like folks that worked there were getting screwed though I'd say don't worry about it.
Not nice for the new applicants I guess, but boss shouldn't have been looking if he had a full crew... I probably would have just walked... Timed properly so the boss would have been there and suddenly was short a worker so he had to do some grunt work himself. Matter of fact I've done this a few times, just not in the "fast food" business. It's fun watching a rich moron try to cut greens at a golf course when he hasn't a clue what he's doing. I heard later that he gave the new guy some respect from time to time, so I guess I did some good.
Hm, that seems dishonest to me. I probably would have tried to find another job instead. It's fine/good to rebel, but I think you should be open and honest about it.
Standard for fast food. It's not a job to live on it is for high school kids who need gas money. The companies know this and will always hire some one new rather then let an existing employee stick around. I guess I was lucky but even in high school I refused to do that sort of work. Even then I knew it was shitty. At least you were able to keep your job though. :2thumbsup:
Wonderful , so you threw away a bunch of random, innocent peoples applications with personal data and information including social secruity numbers, address, etc. into the trash. You suck. Hope karma strikes back in whatever way is deemed appropriate by whatever force dolls it out...Yah. People like you suck.
By being selfish and showing a complete disregard for others well being, personal information and time. At the very least you could have shredded the documents, that would have been understandable. Hope the employer finds the applications in the trash and fires your ass. Of course, scary as it sounds, some people lack the emotional capacity to understand such concepts...
This was my first visit to True Confessions forum. I was expecting people to list things they have done that they weren't proud of, but not for people to be so judgmental - otherwise what is the point of this forum?! No one would confess anything! So PoetSappho - nice confession and I am sure you have learnt from your mistakes.
ha! it was years ago, never got caught, since moved on and along. aren't you just an angry ball of negativity!
Very inventive, good for you - though especially that you've moved on. What's all the static for, people, this was a perfectly legitimate case of economic self-defense. Worker solidarity doesn't necessarily extend to throngs of chumps your boss might be looking to replace or undercut you with. Doesn't sound like a mutually rewarding work environment, so who's to say you weren't providing those applicants a service by taking their letters out of circulation? It's cool that you were able to do that in the first place, because I think most businesses for precisely this reason try to separate their Human Resource departments from their primary work stations.
