I haven't read all 16 pages but i will say this... i always sorta felt that those who went out tryin to look like hippies or be the hippies of the past are not what i would call a "true hippie", most people who i really see as hipies just naturally fell in with this crowd, the change is gradual so to say.. i know too many girls at school who went from bein the in girl one day to thinkin she was a hippie the next and i was always pretty doubting in the back of my head. lol especially due to the fact most still followe and abide to the ways of the "in crowd" lol.. though i do agree that hippies come in all shapes and forms...
I don't understand. Who got what authority to decide who is or isn't real or fake? What is their expertise in the matter? Fuck labels man. Want a label? Here, have a label from a can of soup. Now you're no longer a hippy. You're now a can of chicken & noodles. Sheesh.
bc The Music held the message and the messsage was Magic. It's like climbing a ladder. As The Expreience grew so did the music. Like your first doobie, the first step we all took. Then as our thirst for knowledge further'd our awareness opened and in flew more meaning which was put to verse. It's like a road map on how to get THERE. It takes you from the beginning untill the Hippies stop singing. Which has not occured yet. sh
Are you actually getting angry that people are wearing articles of clothing that represent peace? I'm no hippie but, I'm pretty sure "real hippies" don't care as long as the message is right. They sure as hell don't get angry over petty bullshit either. You, ma'am, are a fucking idiot <3 The music doesn't matter. The drugs don't matter. The clothes don't matter. The only thing that does make you a hippie is your way of life and thinking. Hippie is such an ugly label that represents smelly hipsters pumped full of drugs running around saying "OMG I'm in love wiff' everything!" You don't need to travel back in time and go to Woodstock to see that. Just go to a rave. The official definition of hippie is actually one that states that the person is opposing to most conventional standards of society. Punk rockers are basically the same, don't you think? Hippies are just punk rockers, ravers, or whatever except they stand against the government for peace and what not instead of all that anarchy bullshit. Anyway, end statement is that being a hippie is about your way of thinking and life style, not your clothes and music taste or eating habits.
Good question Kamran. Who cares about what others are wearing? Hell, just don't look at them if it offends ya. You aren't a WHAT???? I'm glad! Boy we don't want none of them long-haired smelly non-judgmental mental cases hanging around, now would we? Labels man, all worthless labels. Music. Let's see here.... I listen to Tom T Hall, Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, Jefferson Airplane, Insane Clown Posse and Fifth Dimension. The only label I can stomach accepting is "brother" or "sister". Brother! Nah man, the official definition of a hippy is, in my blessed and usually right opinion is someone that can say "fuck labels just be yourself!" and actually mean it! PEEEACE!!!! FUCK YEAH BROTHER! We love peace, man! I can dig that!
I meant in the dictionary Haha. I say I'm not but that's just because I don't like labeling myself. I don't even think I'll get a proper marriage because you don't need an official document to tell you that you love someone. If you are what you are then it is what it is. People call me hippie all the time and I say "Nawww man I'm not!" whilst dressed in a tie-dye Grateful Dead t-shirt and some peace sign shoes toking a joint ranting on about some sort of metaphor that I discovered on while on LSD. I'm just a big ol' stereotype
All I am going to say is that "Hippies" were always just labeled humans with certain flavors. If someone calls these "new" hippies such, then they are. You are what people say you are, not how you actually dress, what you listen to, etc. Hence, labels are very meaningless except in high school.
Labels are not meaningless, they're very useful. But they have specific purposes so when ya project a group label on an individual it doesn't have to fit at all.
There are three besic types of people: 1.) The people who don't give a damn about how they look 2.) The people who don't give a damn about what's in and dress how they want 3.) The people who dress 'in style' and shadow everyone else to look like eachother... I know many girls at my school who wear peace signs (but would never go to a peace protest) and hippie-clothing not because they like it but because it's what everyone else wears and they think they like it, they do this because.... well, it's what 'everyone' else wears. It's not their style, it just is The Stlye. Wear what you want, be who you are, and be proud of it. Others will learn a person's personality and label them according more to personality. Odds are, the 'fake hippies' will be labeled preppy, and you'll be labeled a real hippie... if that matters It does irk me too though. I always think I see somebody who will be itnerested in the same things as me, but nope
Labels are not meaningless, contrary to some opinions... Labels are very useful... Do you want the child molester who plans on moving in next door to you to be able to make his label disappear? Just have him be another 'brother' moving in next to your kids? What is funny, and ironic, which is what I pointed out last time and everyone seems to have passed over, is having those who are traditionally against labels, arguing over the label they carry... and who deserves it. Still not convinced labels have a point and purpose? You have two glasses in front of you, one is pure fresh water, the other is the same water with an undetectable poison... The had labels, but some child, screaming "down with labels", tore them off... Pick one to drink.
This coming from the person who was over analysing something as simple as labels about people into something about poison and water
I actually offered multiple points in the post that you chose to ignore. Some labels are for objects, yes... some are for people... Changing it from a conversations about labels into one about stereotypes in order to prove your point does nothing for your argument. However, seems you wish to make that attempt, I will point out that I gave an example of labeling in regards to people. Is it a stereotype that having a child molester living next door to you could endanger your kids.... sure it is... Does that mean its wrong? Not in the slightest... None of this changes the fact that people claiming to be hippies, arguing about who is better suited for the label of hippie, have missed one of the major points of those that were labeled as hippies for wanting to follow their own path... You cannot follow someone down your own path.
