this is exactly what I was thinking, they're most likely just following the latest trend.. next year they'll probably be moved on to something else ..
I know what you're getting at but there really isn't a definition of hippie. Its all in the mind ya know! I often wonder if I am just a walking cliche myself but I tend to get involved in humanitarian projects and the like. I dress the part, I have dreadlocks, I don't have a corperate job, I read all the "required reading" I have a shelf full of records of the music that made the revolution and some that still do. I have attended concerts out the ass, not just for the music but for the community,I know what its like to have to survive in the real world with virtualy no money, I know all the sayings, been to protests and so on and so forth. Is it just going through the motions? Id like to think not. I know why I do everything I do. There are a lot of "fake hippies" out there, but maybe they just need to be turned on to what it is we do and why. Ill be the first to admit, I. Didn't know much about what I was protesting the first few times but I learned and grew. I didn't know all the bands at first but that's because I didn't have anyone to turn me on. I found out about it myself and by listening to what my bands were saying. Grab these "fake hippies" and take them to a weekend music festival and see if they can dig it. If not, they will never come back. Its not for everyone and the ones that make it are tough as hell for sticking it out in the face of society and their never ending attempts to make us bow down to the corperate masters who want us to worship the dollar so they can put us in our boxes. Sorry, I have a ranting tendancy from time to time. But the bottom line is maybe yours and our problem of ignorant fashion hippies is a matter of perception.
I find it ridiculous that little middle school girls are calling themselves hippies. It's become nothing more than a tag that people use on themselves. They don't really care about peace or freedom or love, they just want to call themselves something.
Yea i duno if its a good or bad thing that glassons is selling so many peace syn cloths or maybe its at jayjays? Ppl wearing them when they dont no what it realy means. But ohwel shit hapens. I dont call myself a hippy i call myself dinnell. Though i am proud that sumhow i turned out eco friendly while my family totaly arnt! i try to make them understnd about being ecofriendly but doesnt seem to work. But doesnt harm me trying to remind them everynow and then!
I'm not a hippie, I just play one on Hipforums. ...No wait... I just look like a hippie. And like to argue with hippies.
anything like the closet cannabis user, afraid to come out, over fears of being persucuted ? Be aware that when you do come out to your family, there are going to be difficult times ahead for you as many people do not understand nor condone the cannabis consumer lifestyle. It is not easy to face your fears of being outed or coming out of the closet. It takes a great deal of courage to face your fears and to be strong enough in yourself to say yes I'm a cannabis consumer and be ready to face whatever consequences the world throws at you. This can be a totally liberating period in your life. It is never easy to face both family pressure societal pressure and peer pressure to conform to normal standards. When it comes to coming out, you will find that this is a totally different lifestyle and it doesn't have a lot of support system to it. Sometimes when you're repressing how you feel or what you are a can lead to serious mental emotional and physical issues. This is why it is so vital to do the right thing and come out. It can be liberating but he can also be very scary when you do come out of the closet. The freedom is refreshing. Many people do not understand the the cannabis consumer lifestyle. You will face a lot of hostility in negativity from family, friends, and society. It is very difficult to make a decision to admit to your a cannabis consumer. You have to be very secure in yourself in order to make the difficult decision to come out. Facing your family is also difficult decision. Familial pressures can be devastating when it comes to admitting that your a cannabis consumer. To come out to your family, you will need a quiet place that only the family members will be at. This is a place where you can discuss your decision without creating a scene. To be certain coming out of the closet is not an easy task. Having the confidence to be able to admit that you are a cannabis consumer makes things a lot easier. To be certain, you will have a lot of flack from family members that do not understand. This is the hardest decision you will ever have to make. From the moment that you admit that you are using cannabis your life will change. However with the support of understanding family and friends, you could make the transition into coming out of the closet and publicly knowledge and that you're cannabis user. Having a support system is the one thing that will save your sanity... :mickey:
who cares how they dress, we all know the truth. they're clothes might fool some but when you start talking to them you know instantly whether or not they're actually what they make themselves out to be. clothes only cover so much. and it's not about the clothes. it's about who you are. if you're genuinely a nice person, if you're for peace and freedom. knowing the differene between the illusion of freedom and the reality of freedom. fighting for your rights as a person and your fellow people.not who's rockin the tie dye or dreadlocks. Although I must admit i'm partial to both. if wearing peace symbols and flowey skirts can transform your everday joe and jane into someone more peaceful and open minded then I say all the power to them. I think there's a little hippie in everyone. You make it seem like bell bottoms and tie dye, and all of that wasn't a trend back in the 60's. It obviously was, were every single one of those people true hippies...or fitting in. We as people glamourize the past. Yes those trendy mtv watching tweeting tweens are adapting a more hippie inspired wardrobe what can you do.
I get the giggles when I look at dome of the girls in "hipsters" now, they look awful! They are nothing like the hip huggers, the bell bottoms don't come close. Cullottes are called skorts, the psychedelic designs aren't psychedelic, but... Mimicry is flattery and bless them, they are packing bowls and they are decent growers. The gang bangin and crap they dealt with... It's no wonder they choose a peaceful, bohemic, fabulous era to identify with.
Yep. Crazy, huh? I figure people are people whever I go. If they want a label, they can get one off of a soup can and paste it to their foreheads. Otherwise who cares? Man, people should just be themselves if they want to be happy!
Beatle Girl, if they don't conform to these strict guidelines, they are patent impostors, most probably pigs in the making, who wouldn't know a pad from a tampon.
Teeny boppers your all full of s--t. Wannabe Hippies,Hippies died in 68 get it.The originals are still the greatest, whats the saying? Get A Life.
