I just wanna get a nice fat paycheck to pay for the nice fat intern chicks and have everybody run around naked & tokin'!
Fake modern hippies eh. Because they don't know who Janis Joplin is? Or they dont have a favourite band from the 60's or 70's. Why don't you ask them real questions. Like what they stand for. What they believe in. Music taste doesn't make you a hippie. Sure they're likely jumping in on a trend. But if in that process the trend also makes them stand for peace and love I say go for it.
It doesn't make them stand for peace and love and neither should it make them. They're not hippies, they are only considered fake hippies because peeps in this thread misjudged them on their looks
ITT: OP gets her panties in a bunch because of those OTHER trendwhores who don't study their trends as carefully as she does. How DARE they go "oh hey, peace and love are cool", without studying the music that people listened to a half century ago in extreme depth? OP is obviously a much more sincere trendwhore than they are.
The hippies from the counter culture did not call themselves hippies. The word 'Hippie' is stereotyping. Hippes where indivduals and free thinkers. They didn't wear fashionable uniforms or do stuff because it is supposedly hippie like being a vegetarian. Its just a part of a act. Playing a roll. I eat tofu so now i'm helping the world. But infact you are disturbing natures balance by not functioning as nature has intended you to do. We are like ants. We keep order in chaos. Anyway. There is no such thing as hippies. In fact. We are outcasts because we have conscious and a mind. That has nothing to do with tie dye and music from the sixties. Because you don't haver to be stuck to Janis Joplin. Try Eryka Badu. It's good music.
I am very interested in this: How do you guys feel about hula hoop hippie girls at festivals? The ones with the flames and the ones that can hula off their arms, legs, neck, anything! The hula hoop was invented in '59, and was more of a beat nik thing. I wonder if hippies had led hula hoops they would of used them in the 60s? What do you guys think of the modern hula hippies? Slutty or sexy ? x
I think that if hippies in the 60's had fire toys (poi, staff, hoop) .... well, Winterland just might have been accidently burned to the ground. They would have loved them. The hula hoop in the 50s was a kids thing, beats did not use hula hoops, neither did any other adults.
I don't think music is so much important as ideals. Now if their putting the peace sign on shit and then are gang bangers, that pisses me off, but then again its freedom of speech, but I have it to , so they can't say shit when I call them a hypocrite
Yep, all sorts of people try to pass themselves off as...... it is just fashion. We live in a materialist society , like rats on a treadmill , endless debt to have the latest gizzmo Who gives a fuck about these things often so we have credibility when using a phone or car. Who gives a fuck if we have the latest phone or whatever? This is the big problem for our time people not thinking?
I lived as a hippy for years in a rough shed in the bush, we were happy and it takes a lot of grit to live in the bush without normal appliances etc. Some people look down on hippies but they know shit.
You're not a real hippy if you don't know the words to "Songs to Aging Children Come"... Sent with warm memories of hairy babysitters.
Heh. Enjoy this babysitter memory. I love Dar Willaims. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdbG6WkUsQ0&sns=em"]Dar Williams - The Babysitter's Here - YouTube
Slutty? How on earth can fire dancing/hoop dancing be slutty? Judgmental much? I'm a hooper. My old nick here was hooperchick. Back on the pre crash boards. I remember being surprised the raver culture liked them so much! To me it was an early SCI thing. Beth from Telluride gets most of that credit. But hoop dancing was developing in both communities. I'd seen hoops in Dead lots, randomly, thigh the late 70s onward. Some as the toy store version, but eventually the PVC versions. The fact that hoops are connected with hippies now (not exclusively, Burners, ravers and tribal belly dancers love them, too) tells me that not only is the ethic that made for old time freaks alive, well and changing enough to serve present conditions, but that the hippies themselves are adapting to the current environment. That means we can keep changing, challenging, having some fun and get things done in the future. Which tells me we will get by, we will survive.
I have no idea what "Songs to Aging Children Come" is. No idea at all. And I remember getting a Wham-O hula hoop in 1958. but I have no idea what hoop dancing is. So I guess I'm not a hippie.
