so can we talk about the original topic now? because i really was serious about what i said. i think words (especially when they are used as a weapon) should be used in a more understanding way. name calling will only make a situation worse. somebody on this thread claimed that words are not such a big deal. and that if somebody feels insulted or threatened by name calling, well, they are just plain weak, and need to grow a thicker skin. so is it ever cool to call somebody a faggot? and when/if that has happened to you, how did it make you feel inside? did you just let it go, and tell yourself its only a word? what was that saying from a long time ago? silence=death? so is it cool to just be quiet when somebody is calling somebody else a faggot as a put down?

well where i come from, people often use the word faggot as a smoker reference. i don't think ive ever actually heard it being used in a homophobic way

 

either you come from a very remote corner of the uk where they have not caught up with modern language or you are trying to get a whole bunch of foreigners in trouble as soon as they come into this country by convincing them that its ok to go round calling people faggots.

I couldn't find phaggot in the dictionary... Sorry that's so long. But basically fag and faggot have the widest meanings of any word, from someone about to be burnt to death as a heretic to bundle to smoke to beating someone..Man. There are no positive meanings of fag or faggot, the closest is a neutral/general term..which quickly became a negative term or carried negative implications..

I'm not at all crazy about the word "fag(got)." And while I'm at it, please let me say that I'm not so keen on the other words people have mentioned in this thread.

Using any word or name just to "piss people off" tells me some pretty negative things about people who do that. What's the benefit of pissing people off just to piss people off? If you absolutely, positively have to piss people off, do it in a clever and constructive manner.
