    i know what it means.

i'm just saying that people who use it tend to think they're better than everyone else because they think they're in on some secret that nobody else knows about.

It's used in the US the same way... Not sure where "elitist" comes into play.

haha true, but I was a little suprized that you felt the sheeple thing was exclusive to UK...Very likely it was used in the Uk first, we be stealin' shit allatime from youz guys...:mickey:

...not sure when it started being used here, I'm gonna guess '60s/ Kennedy era or so when rightwing nut bags first started screaming about what the 'gubermints' doing to wreck the country and turn us all into commies lol

Fuck facebook, sure it may be harmless now... but think of what this could turn into. I'm getting so sick of facebook, and the internet in general! The internet is amazing, i love the concept, but all the secretive shit that goes down behind it is way to sketchy for my liking... i'm even becoming a lot more worried about hipforums even, i've posted so much shit on here i wish i could take back... i wish i could just delete everything i've ever posted on the internet and start fresh...

Anyone else out there proud to be a sheeple?

I think 'sheeple' is more properly defined as a term used to negatively describe people whose viewpoints differ from yours?

The church calls the atheists 'sheeple' and the atheists call the church members 'sheeple', who's right?

Somebody wrote an article, you read it, then you agreed with them, you instantly became a 'sheeple!'

I'm an ignorant, f*cking piece of shit, "brain-washed-zombie" [yes, you, McFuddy] "SHEEPLE," [here's a shout out to alwayscrackers for fairness] and I'm damn proud of it.

    Eggsprog, thank you a thousand!

Yeah, I feel the same way. To have known then what we know now...

tyrson, I think sheeple is meant to be derogatory and elitist, and it's self defeating.

I don't even mind calling people sheep, but sheeple, funny as I'm sure it was when it was said for the very first time, is now just annoying and breeds resentment. It's a sure bet that someone you call (an individual of the) sheeple will have a much harder time seeing things your way. It's not meant to show that someone is behaving like a sheep and following the flock, it's a closer attack on them, people are obviously not sheep but calling someone a sheep-person makes them unredeemable in your eyes and in their understanding of your eyes, and you will never change their mind. If you're discussing them with others, it still dehumanizes them and breeds disdain for a group that should be reached out to.

As for on this site, it's usually a brainless ad hominem attack when a right-winger doesn't like a left-wing point of view, and bitches and moans about all the commie sheeple who just can't see that big business and no minimum wage is really in their best interest ;)

hmm sounds intruding, yet they're looking for new ways to stop crime. Not sure if I can agree or disagree with this.

There has always been privacy issues revolving around Facebook and this is just one more. It honestly doesn't surprise me in any way that they are doing this. While I completely disagree with them doing it what can we do other then form a group in an attempt to protest it if we care enough to do so? Or just don't use Facebook if it makes you concerned about your privacy. If you aren't doing anything wrong no need to worry I guess but I detest anything that helps lead our country farther down the path of a police state.

The label Sheeple originated in the United States, and designates people who tend to accept and take statements at face value, especially if it is cited in mainstream media or religion. There is documented print usage of this word as early as 1950, in the form, "We the Sheeple", in the Emory University Quarterly.

I always thought the term sheeple referred to people that chose to turn a blind eye to obvious truths, because they trust in people that they shouldn't put trust in. Like politicians for example....i still don't understand why people actually think they give a shit about the "people". :)

    So there I was,
    Sitting Alone,
    Just sitting,
    Thinking of Sacred Geometry,
    The intricate animal kingdom makeup,
The detailed structure of mother earth,
    And then it hit me,
    I am O K.:daisy:
    Why?
Because I am one of them.
Ah, today is a happy and joyous day in the land.
Erasing all thoughts of the other world,
    Embracing my reality of peace.
Happy Thanksgiving, for we all have something GREAT to be Thankful for :)
