I understand what Dude is saying, and he's right. Too many people are willing to give up privacy and freedom in the name of a fictitious safety, security and ill-concieved luxury. It's really not outdated at all.

i was looking thru the logs from a someone who i know's phone, an app was trying to make system calls as user id 0 .. which is the root user but got denied because user id zero didnt exist, i assume because it was an android phone with the root account disabled.

they purposefully make phones and software to dump all kinds of information to the sd card so it can easily be retrieved by law enforcement or other agencies, and have the permissions set so the user cant delete it, you have to run as root and chmod the files to 777 permissions to delete them, and even if you do, u only deleted the pointers to the files, the data still exists on disk

don't believe me, reformat a drive then hex dump the entire device ( ex. xxd /dev/sda | cat > a.out) it will not be all 0's, to truly get rid of everything you have to zero fill the entire device

in UNIX like systems runnning as root ( or sudo ) .. # dd bs=4K if=/dev/zero of={device_name...ex. /dev/sdc} .. writes all zeros to specified device. so if the device you want to wipe is /dev/sdc type in terminal dd bs=4K if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc . they will be hard pressed to get have any clue what it was ever used for

or u could pound it into pieces with a hammer

its hard to be free, and have ur privacy/security at the same time .. if u truly want privacy, get rid of ur smart phones, or install an opensource OS on it.

i know event logs are used by app developers and such to debug apps, but why should they put on the sd card with the permissions set so they can't be cleared by a regular user doesn't seem right .. i think they are there for other purposes as well under that guise .. i mean i can understand that cuz UNIX is a multiuser system and u dont want regular users altering certain files but its a phone, come one, how many users are gonna be using it at one ?

I don't think people really care what a bunch of other people talk about on Facebook. Seriously. The paranoia has to stop somewhere.
And don't kid yourselves neither, whatever you talk about probably ain't that interesting at all and there will be no cops pouncing on your ass when you leave your house tonight.

all this true. it really aint that big a deal, but i still don't want anything to do with it, mostly on general principal. I strongly believe in privacy, and security, and facebook violates this. I think its kinda screwed up that they don't allow you to actually delete your account. If i was running a website and user didn't want to have an account anymore, i'd tell em get the fuck out and stop wasting the disk space on my server .. if i was trying to build a database i might wanna keep all that stuff.

I just clicked on that citydata link that dude posted and I must say two things.... one, pretty funny thread over there. Was worth reading for me. And I think that thread explains why dude is saying fb violates (or could violate) people's privacy that don't have a fb account.

My main use of Facebook is to upload and store any good picture of me or that I have taken. That is my primary use. If I need to find a picture, it'll be on Facebook, I know this much. My second use is my own journal which I know is public to friends except some that I block because they go tell their family and then my mum has to hear about it and it's really not worth it. I'm a bit of a jerk on Facebook at times, never afraid to speak my mind etc. I mean, I always find it amusing to go back on the day to like 2-4 years ago and see what I was doing or thinking, it's good shit and I at least believe my posts are worth a good laugh. I don't care who reads them though, or who wants to read personal communication between me and friends I had 15 years ago and never seen again, it's just not concerning at all. I don't keep and criminal or illegal records on there, all my information is basically false save for my birthday and location.. My schools are all over seas back in the 30s at SS training camps, that's where you're going to find my school years, studying "concentration" @ concentration camps. Haha. My display picture is a black/white version of my avatar here so my face isn't showing up all around the globe but my surname makes it easy to recognise who I am especially in a smaller city and the fact that there's probably less than 10 people in the country with it..I've also got a middle name on Facebook as -Heathen Hammer- so that warns off would be potential friends at times. I've gone and blocked most things so that even google won't come up with my Facebook, I think you can see my profile link but nothing personal comes through when you click on it, you need to be a friend of mine to view it.. and after 5 or so years, I've had zero problems with any type of security. Just one nasty phone call for blatantly dissing a real estate agent in a post they wanted me to publicly apologise for. From that day I refused to rent any longer, bought a house and laughed and laughed at the real estate.
