My faith is based on my religious experiences. Yes, that's right, I'm a christian too, jerk. My belief in science is based on logic, and if you follow the logic, evolution is the best-defended theory in the history of science. There is more empirical evidence for evolution then any other theory, ever. It isn obvious from modern genetic studies that human beings are still evolving. There is no real evidence to the contrary. Yes, there are miniscule holes in evolution theory. The contrary evidence does not disprove the fact that creatures evolve, but they do illustrate the fact that we might not know every step. We do know that the steps take place, but we don't neccesarily have every single step mapped out. But we know there are steps. We know that evolution happens. This is an incontrovertible fact, the evidence for it is too strong. Just compare your facial features to that of your mother and your father. Hell, even the ancient jews knew about evolution. When you plant a tree with large fruit next to another tree of the same species with equally large fruit, and the bugs pollenate both trees with the seed of the other, you get even bigger fruit. That's called mutation. I hate to upset you, Campbell, but there are approximately 2,155,263,738 christians in the world, and only approximately 378,459,876 of those are protestants. The majority of christians in the world are roman catholic, and unlike the american catholic church, when the pope says that you believe X as a catholic, you listen and obey because the pope is infallible (according to catholicism, not me.) The official doctrine of the catholic church is that Evolution happened. The official doctrine of the Methodist church is that Evolution happened. The official doctrine of the Anglican church is that evolution happened. You'll find that while 80% of the people in the united states belong to some kind of christian denomination or refer to themselves as christian. If %55 of Americans dont believe in evolution, and %100 of them are christians, that still leaves %25 of the us population that is A) christian, and b) believes in evolution. But christianity isn't an American religion. It's a global one American christians make up Doctrines are much stronger in the rest of the world. When your church tells you a doctrine, you believe that doctrine. The majority of christians in the world sign on the dotted line that they believe what their church believes. of the christians in the world, the American christians who disbelieve evolution are 165,000,000 strong. But indoctrined christianity is 2,155,263,738 strong. You make up only %7.6 of christians, worldwide. 92.4% of christianity believes in evolution. 1,990,263,738 christians disagree with you. You aren't the silent majority. You aren't the moral majority. You're a brainwashed, vocal minority. So when I say that american fundamentalism I'm a christian. I'm a United Methodist. How dare you judge me simply because I disagree with you. If I was a nonbeliever, how would you have brought me into relationship with god by chiding me and judging me? How would an attack like that have helped make the world a better place? What kind of witness do you think you're setting by acting as if you have all the answers and a monopoly on truth? Is arrogance and judging going to bring anyone closer to god? The bible tells you to do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your god! I've seen plenty of arrogance in this thread. A little bit of humility, and an admission that you are a flawed human being that might be wrong would go a long way in building the kingdom. You call yourself a christian? Start acting like one. And don't come at me with the same line about humility. I'm not confronting nonbelievers, I'm confronting fellow believers. Be as arrogant and joking as you want when you're dealing with people inside the church, but when you're in public, it's your sacred duty to be a good witness. This forum is public. And what kind of witness am I setting, you ask, by going on this tirade against you? I'm witnessing to the fact that not all christians are arrogant jerks who believe that they have a monopoly on truth. Christians who are normal people who believe in logic are the majority, and it's time we started acting like it in order to keep our religion from being highjacked by radical fringe elements. And when you make up barely 7 per cent, you're definitely a fringe element. I believe that god created the heavens and the earth, and I believe that he used natural tools to get there. I believe that god was a causal force in evolution, and I believe that Science is the study of the universe that god has created. Christianity and science are not enemies, they are allies. They work together. Science tells us how the world works, while Pietist christianity helps bring us into relationship with the creator of this world. And by the way, because of the strict observance of doctrine that exists outside of american christianity, the majority of christians, and the majority of evidence agrees with me.
I was referring to if you believed in the full force theory of evolution. I believe that theory is "built on sand" If you believe the theory of evolution, then I believe your faith is built on sand. Sorry if I offended you... It is hard to see my tone through words : )
So as a Christian, does your faith teach you to call other believers jerks? And yes, Evolution is the most defended, because it requires a strong defense, because of it's obvious weaknesses. If Evolution were true, then the Bible would be exposed as a Book of make believe stories. It could never be considered a Book of truth, because who could say where the make believe ends, and the truth starts? And if you think just because the pope says something that all Catholics will then believe and follow, you better think again. Italy is about 98% Catholic, and when the Pope told the people of that country to support a law that would ban abortions. Guess what? About 95% of that country voted to support a womans right to choose. So much for your theory. And I don't believe that I am an arrogance jerk just because I believe in the Written Word, nor have I ever called anyone on this post an arrogant jerk. I do believe people that often respond that way, have little in common with the Christian faith.
Thanks for your apology, JesusDied4U, but my point still stands. Even if you believe that such a theory is built on sand, there's no need to be smug about it. When they make obvious assumptions about me or others, yes. That's judging, and judging is wrong. It's obvious you didn't read my entire post, because I explained this earlier. Romans teaches that if another christian is damaging the faith, you have a duty to confront them. Here I am, confronting you. There are a lot worse things I could have said other than 'jerk,' but I believe that it was an accurate statement. [q]And yes, Evolution is the most defended, because it requires a strong defense, because of it's obvious weaknesses.[/quote]No, evolution is not the most defended. Evolution is the most proven. And you ignored my entire argument. Evolution has been proven, but not the history of evolution. The evidence speaks for itself. Just because the bible isn't literal or perfect doesn't mean that it makes it any less true. Lets take Adam and Eve. Does the fact that I don't believe in a literal adam or a literal eve make it so that I don't see any truth in that story. Far from it. According to the story of adam and eve, there was a time when our ancestors did not understand the difference between right and wrong. When we lived as animals in the woods. When we did not involve ourselves in commerce or economy. Then we gained the ability to comprehend right and wrong, and having gained such an ability, we were seperated from the animals and held accountable for our actions. Genesis says rather clearly that there was a time when our ancestors were not sentient beings. That seems very consistent with evolution! Through some process, human beings changed from one state, to another! *Gasp* They evolved! They gained the knowledge of good and evil! So you see, my evolution faith also comes directly from genesis. I know my bible, sir. To be honest, I'd rather live with that knowledge, and the duty to do good, then without it. Because otherwise, I would be totally oblivious to the fact that rape was wrong. And besides, the bible can't be literally true. There are far too many contradictions. Here's a quick list of 384 biblical contradictions. But these contradictions are there because god wants them to be there. And god wants the bible to contradict itself because we are not to accept every word as absolute truth. The bible is to be questioned. And even if that last statement isn't true, the writers of the bible may have been inspired by god, but it was church beuaraucracy that peiced the bible together at Nicea and the other ecumenical councils. Actually, Italy is only justifiably 30% Catholic. The data I saw on the abortion vote showed that only 60% of Italians voted for abortion. The numbers still check out. But I wasn't talking about Europe anyway. The population of europe is too small. I was talking about Africa, Asia, and Russia. And besides, if the catholics in Italy supported abortion, they probably have no problem with evolution, so guess what? My point that the Majority of the christian faith stands with me was actually strengthened by the idea that so many italians are liberal! No. You're notn an arrogant jerk because you believe in the inerrency of the written word. You're an arrogant Jerk for judging me as not christian because I disagreed with you.

I said people who call others jerks are often people who have little in common with the Christian faith. Just as people who say the Bible is a make believe Book have little in common with the Christian faith. I'm sorry if that makes you feel guilty. Yet, I did not judge you. Evolution according to Darwin would be proven, IF they found an abundance of trans-species in the fossil record. So tell me, WHERE ARE THEY? And if the Bible is not literal, then what is true? Can you tell me which parts of the Bible I can believe? And if the Bible is not literal, why are it's prophecies literal? And I might point out to you that according to the Bible most people will not believe it's truth, and according to the Bible, MOST PEOPLE ARE HEADED FOR HELL. So believe what you want, I will believe the Bible. And that is the reason the Bible told us to beware of science falsely so called. The Bible states that the time would come when the world would not endure sound doctrine, but would turn their ears away from the truth, and they would listen to false teachers.

Now you are saying Evolution is not the most defended. You are beginning to sound like the Theory itself. One day its one thing, and the next day, it's something else. Remember it was Darwin who said that IF his theory was true an abundance of trans-species would be found in the fossil record. Got any idea where they are? What the Bible does say, is that we should beware of science falsely so called. The Bible also tells us that the time will come when men will not endure sound doctrine, but will turn away their ears from the truth and will be led astray by false teachings.
Seek and you shall find... Underground dwellings dug out, and lived in, by man. Originally the term 'troglodyte' comes from of Greek, where designating cave dweller.
Still waiting.. None. have explained the trilobite. Maybe, like the emaculate conception. Trilobites are acausal. Yep, when we dont understand, we say god made it.. Cause most of us are stupid. Occam
I call Poe's Law on ikdenkhetniet. His posts essentially equate to foot stomping and a hissy fit evident in the longwindedness and use of CAPS. He's like Kent Hovind incarnate.
It's simple. Evolution = logical; religion = faith, absence of logic by definition. You are looking for a logical answer from those who dissolve logic to bend their ideoligies at will.
And in regards to the soft tissue unable to be 70mill years old; I find this incredibly humorous and hypocritical. You are stating that soft tissue is unable to last that long and the only reasoning used are scientific. Science has told you that soft tissue can't last that long and now you are utilizing scientific thought and claiming it for religious. With science out the window, why on earth is it impossible for soft tissue to last so long? Jesus can turn water into wine yet soft tissue can't merely stick around for a really long time?
So a virgin really did give birth to some dude that rose from the dead? Interesting. I found it hard to believe at first but now you've totally convinced me.
Heh, I find your sig ironic. To quote RELAYER, there is no such thing as a future. That only exists in human conception of time. Time is movement, measured distances.
If there is no future, then there is no tomorrow. Yet I am sure you will wake up tomorrow. God was incarnated in the earth, and He did not say the future did not exist infact He talked about the future in detail.
There is no tomorrow. There is only today, and to be more exact, there is only Now. The past is only a memory of what Now was once like. The future is only a guess into what Now will become.
Every morning you tell yourself that. "There is no tomorrow... There is no tomorrow." Sorry man its a no go.
Faith comes from a lack of imagination and a desire for comfort over truth. You're always telling people how to get to heaven, and missing life in the process.
