    Experimenting with explosives can be legal, Supreme Court rules after autistic man charged with terror offences
    Chez Copeland developed explosives at home because of 'obsessive interest' with military, court hears

    Chez Copeland was cleared of terror charges after a Supreme Court ruling ( West Midlands Police )
    Experimenting with explosives can be legal, the Supreme Court has ruled after an autistic man was charged with terror offences.

    Chez Copeland, now 22, had been making explosives at his Coventry home after developing an “obsessive interest” with the military and bomb disposal, the court heard.

    He was arrested during a police raid in April 2018 that saw surrounding houses evacuated as his stockpile was safely detonated.

    Copeland was initially charged with offences including six counts of possessing information likely to be useful for an act of terrorism.

    But a judge formally cleared him of the terror charges after the Supreme Court found such experimentation can be legal.

    Delivering its majority judgment on Wednesday, Lord Sales said: “As a matter of law, personal experimentation and self-education are lawful objects.”

    A trial judge initially ruled that Copeland could not use that as a defence and the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal.

    But the Supreme Court was then asked to rule on the matter as a “point of general public importance”.

    Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court last week, Copeland admitted the lesser charges of owning a stun gun and acquiring an explosive without a certificate.

    The Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence against him in relation to two offences of making and possessing explosives, and six charges of collecting information likely to be useful to a terrorist.

    I would like to receive morning headlines Monday - Friday plus breaking news alerts by email
    Judge Mark Wall sentenced him to one year and 10 months in jail but he was released because he had already served the time on remand at maximum security prisons.

    The Supreme Court’s ruling sets a precedent for future terror cases, where other defendants may attempt to use “experimentation” as a defence.

    The court heard that Copeland has no previous convictions and was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder as a child.

    He was living with his mother in a terraced house in Coventry when he was arrested, and had been using a garden shed as a laboratory where he made a small quantity of HMTD explosive.

    Judges said the amount possessed only risked “insubstantial injury or damage” but that Copeland had previously used other chemicals to make explosive substances, as well as initiators and remote detonators, while filming tests on his mobile phone.

    HMTD was found the shed and Copeland’s bedroom, where his computer contained explosives manuals and videos.

    Tony Benn, Derek Hatton, Ken Livingstone, Dennis Skinner and Eric Heffer are in the Labour Party as reps and are hard left. So I don’t get how you think they are not left, but wishy washy.

    Labour suspends anti-Semitism row candidate

    And there are others on the left. Sadiq Khan is racist too. The mayor of London. He points the finger at others in order to direct attention away from his own shady actions racist ways. He grand stands as do so many other left wingers, which is all just a front. The further left the left goes the more central on thinks they are.

    Tony Benn and Ken Livingstone I knew personally - both very nice people but they are hardly 'hard' left. Dennis Skinner aka the 'beast of Bolsover' whilst a thorn in the side of the 'nasty party' and a 'Socialist', again he was not that much of a hard left member latterly since anno domini has caught up with him. Regrettably he lost his seat in the December election. Derek Hatton the former leader of Liverpool Council has 'sold his soul to the devil' and is no longer involved in politics at all anymore. Like Tony Benn, Eric Heffer is now dead.

    Only when Racist comments are publicized does one get removed. It is running rampant throughout the left, and that hatred does exist on the left.

    Let me ask you this. Are there indigenous people to the uk, living in the Uk? If so, who are they?

    well then you, if in fact you are truly indigenous to the uk. although I have my doubts, what with the name vlad. according to the UN,

    States shall provide effective mechanisms for prevention of, and redress for:
    1. Any form of forced population transfer which has the aim or effect of violating or undermining any of their rights
      1. Any action which has the aim or effect of depriving them of their integrity as distinct peoples, or of their cultural values or ethnic identities;
        (b) Any action which has the aim or effect of dispossessing them of their lands, territories or resources;

        (c)Any form of forced population transfer which has the aim or effect of violating or undermining any of their rights and culture

        (d) Any form of forced assimilation or integra- tion;

        (e) Any form of propaganda designed to pro- mote or incite racial or ethnic discrimination directed against them

        One could argue that in Britain there has had a population forced on them by the European Union and the United Nations, which has undermined their rights and culture as well as their land. As well as effected in their ability to get a job.

        It could further be a strong argument that resources are being depleted with the refugees and immigrants being forced on Indigenous people and their culture and the forceful manner in which Indigenous people in the UK, Scots, Irish and english are to conform and accept the rape of resources, the taxes they have paid. as well as raping the land. the programs they have supported which have been abused by the government who are being controlled by the UN. Being forced to integrate, assimilate with people who are not indigenous to the UK or share the same cultural beliefs. Being shamed for wanting to preserve your culture, identity, forced to assimilate, yet those who immigrate are not forced to assimilate or integrate. I do see people in the UK as quite accepting, not so sure the reverse can be said. It could further be argued that the UN has systematically forced the integration of other cultures on indigenous cultures in the UK, and have done so through propaganda, thus causing racial, ethnic and cultural discrimination against people who are of british, irish and scottish indigenous culture, even thought they have been accepting and sympathetic.

        So now we have corona virus, indigenous people, indigenous cultures in the UK are told they are being racist for not going to china town to shop or eat. They did this before, were they considered racist when they were eating in those restaurants prior? again, this is progoganda, shaming indigenous people. the indigenous culture in the UK, which is what the EU and the UN are promoting through propaganda.

    if you are implying I am one you are sorely mistaken. :) I am indigenous to canada, yes I am native, aboriginal. I am quite accepting of other cultures and also a strong believer in maintaining my cultural identity as native which was raped from my people through immigration. DO I see anything wrong with people of the UK saying, ok this is enough. no.

    your response is typical of someone who is unwilling to listen. Just throw in the racist accusation to discredit. False accusations will not get you anywhere. it just creates a further divide. clearly you have listened to the propoganda from the UN and EU.

    I can tell you that in toronto, I know one person who was fired because she could not speak chinese in the bank she worked. the area had turned to predominantly chinese. She couldn't communicate with the customers so they fired her. I do believe this was wrong. But that is just me. So you can immigrate and not have to assimilate, integrate. separate yourself from the population and live in a bubble that doesn't leave your neighbourhood. I personally think that is sad. If you can't communicate and don't want to communicate there will always be a divide. But you do not have to learn the language of the country you move to, which is wrong in my opinion. I would do it if I moved to a place that spoke a different language.

    :) but this has gone way off topic. what was this thread about again? Oh yes. the left going easy on this guy who is building bombs and should not have. Thing is,Liberal is open to new behavior or opinions and willing to discard traditional values. I am open to new behaviours and opinions, but I am not willing to discredit traditional values of anyone. If you are going to discredit traditional values then you do it against all traditions, not just some. Traditional Islam, tradition Indigenous people, Christian people, aboriginal people in canada, in australia, etc. Just don't select one, reject them all and shame them all if you are going to, or accept everyone, but when you centre one out and don't point to all who are traditional there is a greater divide created.

    I really don't care about others traditional values. It is all ok with me. I have mine so leave it alone as I do to you. :) can find common ground in other things.

    So lets be open to this bomb building guy

    to add, I am against violence, I am for a peaceful life for everyone. I hope for that. I don't own a gun. I don't see the need for an individual to make bombs because he wants to. I also think war has been a neccessary thing at times. I am conflicted on matters. I don't care what colour skin someone has or what religion a person is as long as they do not hurt others simply because they are different. have a different faith or have a different colour skin. I love animals but also eat them to survive. I don't want to see animals become extinct that currently exist. I am against over population. this takes away from wild life. which incluides people. I am for a somewhat controlled population. with the over population of people is has hindered the world in general. we have raped the earth and I don't think this can be reversed. If someone wants to have kids, that is their right, if someone else thinks of the mess of the world and doesn't want to bring children into it, that is also their right to decide. I don't like violence but will defend myself if attacked. as well as coming to the aid of another being attacked.

    Girl who was arrested for making a tin-foil volcano tells her story
    Twitter / Facebook / RSS[/paste:font]
    was arrested for mixing toilet bowl cleaner with tin foil, causing a small, harmless explosion. Though she had a spotless school record, she was expelled and charged with a felony as an adult -- a harsh penalty widely ascribed to institutional racism (Wilmot is black). On May 16, thanks to Wilmot's bravery, a crowdfunded project by former NASA engineer Homer Hickam, and the ACLU, the charges against Wilmot were dropped and Wilmot and her twin sister were awarded a full bursary to the Advanced Space Academy program at the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala..

    An Unexpected Reaction: Why a Science Experiment Gone Bad Doesn't Make Me a Criminal

    After model student Kiera Wilmot was arrested and removed from her high school for doing a science experiment on school property, hundreds of thousands of people across the country signed petitions asking for charges to be dropped and for her to be reinstated in school. Kiera's school's zero-tolerance approach, like so many schools across the country requires severe discipline and does not improve student behavior or improve our schools. It just pushes kids out of school, harming their futures and perpetuating the school-to-prison pipeline. Below, Kiera blogs for ACLU.org about how she and her family have been affected by the school-to-prison pipeline.

    Explosives are easy to make. My father taught me how to make small charges out of batteries and blue-tip matches as a kid. Nothing too serious and no harmful intent. Then Uncle Sam taught me how to make some really deadly shit out of household materials such as hydrogen peroxide or ammonium nitrate or bleach and ammonia and buckets of nails and gasoline among other things, but that was all state sanctioned in the name of fucking up "the enemies of freedom". As a young man, it was pretty exciting. We took down trees with det cord and learned to disable tanks with grease and dish soap. We even learned to disassemble Claymore mines to use the C-4 and BB arrays as pinpoint weapons. As an adult, I look back on it and am amazed at the lengths the creative mind will go to to achieve horrific goals. The people who came up with this shit were artists in their own evil ways.

    As easy as bombs are to make, we're pretty fortunate they're so rarely used in the western world.
