Ethics vs Morality

The major difference between the conservative and liberal mind is their ideas regarding the role of government. The conservative wants the rule the law to be based on moral principles, whereas liberals believe it should be ethically based. The problem with a morally-based system is that they have a tendency to trample and marginal those who do not conform to a certain demographic or religion, often resulting in sexism, prejudice, xenophobia, intolerance, etc...

 

I can't imagine any part of the brain that would drive someone to perform this horrific act....................

Both arguments are based on the false assumption that classic logic describes reality as we know it, when all the evidence indicates its a gross over-simplification. The brain itself is a self-organizing system, meaning morality and conscious thought emerge from the proximity of syntax in the brain, and morality is derived from metaethics. Without either party referring to the actual physical evidence, they can argue forever and get nowhere. Politics suck, but only because complete idiots insist everything must make sense to them personally, often based on bulshit they've been spoonfed by other idiots, who insist they must do something, even if they have no clue what the fuck their doing, and are relying on 2,000 year old logic.

 

So the argument is Remington was just trying to save society from potential troublemakers? I'd hate to be their lawyer. If the jury gets wind of this, the punitive damages should be stratospheric.

Anyhow, they seem to be related but different. I don't think Republican politicians have either of them--at least that they actually follow instead of preach. As for the role of government, small government was then, fascism is now--where the Republican base is concerned..
