Yeah I've heard that explanation before, that the acupuncturist wasn't doing it right. I deny treatment from the western medical establishment as well. It is a matter of personal suitability to methods. It is my better effort to unravel my own imbalances.
^^^ this. It is, or should be in everyones better efforts. So called 'Acupuncturists' can be schiesters and charlatans too.
I think I was clear. There was a time when ritual was necessary. We are in a time of advanced literacy and scientific knowledge. We don't need barefoot doctors and soothsayers any longer. Practical knowledge and understanding is what we need, not rituals and incantations
But somehow the ancient practice of meditation and the very recent post-2012 scientific acknowledgement of it is somehow removed from this triviality? Why can't ritual also be acknowledged in the modern day by science? Why meditation and not ritual? They're both ancient practices.
That 'scientific acknowledgment' you posted is weak and 'gee-whiz' at best. As I said, they have no quantification of the meditative practice beyond, yeah, the subjects practiced "quiet mind".. Big deal. They aren't even skimming the surface. "Don't worry, be happy" ...it's as simple as that if you want my opinion anyway.
You are not understanding me. If your ritual were a way of life it would not be ritual but living. If your meditation were a way of life it would be living and not confined to the idea of meditation. Their limits are as you apply them.
Actually in rural parts of china they do still have their "barefoot doctors", herbalist's and what not that go around to villages, helping people who are ill. Do you know what these rural people request most often from these doctors? Aspirin and antibiotics. why? Because they work.
How about Indonesia where cigarettes are medicine... Whole episode is good but checkout the first half. VICE on HBO Season One: Addiction (Episode 7): http://youtu.be/mkkMhKEfOqw
Not promoting smoking but Nicotine is the thinking mans drug. Einstein Stravinski Zappa...all heavy smokers The list goes on...
2 of those are artists and there are plenty of other drugs which have had an influence on art as well. Here's a list of absinthe users: Then of course plenty other alcoholics, stoners, junkies, psychedelic users to go around.
Part of natures pharmacopoeia any way. I don't promote deleterious habit. The ability to engage with the substance of any phenomena without prejudice of horror or disgust, i think beneficial however.
It's been pretty much determined it was the high alcohol content that was the big deal about absinthe, not any effect from the herbs, which is negligible. the whole absinthe thing is a fucking myth. And come on, nicotine doesn't alter the mind in the way other drugs do, you must admit that. No one smokes tobacco to get high. (except maybe certain south american tribes, the amount of tobacco they ingest in various ways would probably send most of us to the hospital with nicotine poisoning)
