I can't argue. I take a stronger interest in Taoism and Buddhism, but I will always agree that Eastern religion > Western Religion....

Most people around here are atheists, I know 5 Christians, 2 muslims and 3 hindus, including me and my brother. So where people are usually talking about how bigoted Christians and religious people are, it's actually the other way around here. Anyone who believes in God, gets judged a lot more. I think people forget there's more than one religion, they group us all together. As a result, I tend to connect more with them, two of my best friends are Christian. We can empathise with each other.

I just hate the fact that hardcore atheists seem to think they're any different from hardcore theists.

Oh btw, off topic but my friend has totally picked up on the 'use the word ****** a lot and get everyone offended' gimick, she's loving it.

Most of these hardcore atheists were probably raised in strong Christian backgrounds which have hurt and oppressed them both intellectually and emotionally as children. I think that it's rather understandable. I was a rather extremely hardcore atheist when I was like 15... I can relate.

Tell your friend not to accidentally use it in the wrong crowd and to always have an element of humor attached to it. Otherwise she'd get into a whole lotta shit.

 

Lack of knowledge and exposure doesn't eliminate hatred.

People call Persians Muslims all the time. Doesn't mean they aren't bigoted...

And my point does not have to be modernly relevant since Islam still exists, negating any insight into the reality of my claim.

 

I'm not saying that people don't hate.

I am saying that people won't hate any more when Islam is gone.

Plus, the fact that people hate doesn't mean that they'll act upon the hatred. You don't see Christians really act upon their hypocritical principles anymore. (because, as I've said... there are consequences for the actions which they do not want to face)

All in all, people hate not because of religion... which is the key point. They hate because others are different than them.

It's not like Islam and Christianity are that different in their basic teachings.

 

Nah, most of them are brats with an easy life. People who're told their whole life they're gifted, special. People who never worked. I guess I fit in there too, but alas, I wouldn't judge them for their beliefs.

Rubin everything you said defending Christianity could be readily applied to Islam.

It's a numbers game. The more rational, welcoming, egalitarian we atheists are, and the more science and literature spreads the globe, the age of reason wins. In the mean time, no reason to be dicks to people who don't believe the same way.

In the mean time, some of the culture of religion needs to stay around. Big ass churches and gods with 1,000 arms? Count me in.

But I think that I've established why I have much more of a problem with Islam than Christianity.
