There was a gnarly little tree and a tombstone that said Brown.

And a forest all round it.

 

The forest is a charade. It's highway all around it. But their is this one scenic backroad behind the tree-line and before the highway. I always used to come to the cemetery to smoke my blunts (because it's peaceful and no one will fuck with you, and it's one of the few places in town I could smoke openly) then go for a nice long walk that went clear into the next township and back home through the other end of town. It was nice.

 

I don't think the old man is full of shit, I think his poor mind is gone and he is telling what he thinks is the truth.

yeah, the old guy is clearly emotionally and mentally disturbed. broke my heart when he cried about his mom all suddenly the reverted back to mad guy.

must suck to go to battle over racism only to find out the guy you're fighting is not only crazy but a badass motherfucker to boot. the kid shouldn't have seen old guy's retreat to the front of the bus as a win, rather, it was a lucky reprieve.

 

I used to work with a vietnam vet. Nice guy, but easily rattled. And the last thing you wanted to do was bring up the war. Or politics for that matter.

 

right? scary stuff. the next round of vets is just as bad. poor guys. they're all fucked up in the head, some worse than others. tread lightly.

 

Veteran or not DaisyMae, This guy is most definitely full of shit.

 

also, crazy. you can't expect a crazy person to behave intelligently or rationally.

 

These vets, went over, put their asses on the line for what they were told were noble (and just) reasons. Then they came back and society ignored them at best or treated them like shit for doing what they were asked to do.

It's no wonder that a lot of them are considered crazy now. The fact that people are still getting on their cases instead of saying, hey man, you tried to do good, let me help you, just makes it worse.

And yes, the vets coming from this war will end up the same if people treat them the same way.

 

the psychological, medical and societal treatment of vets from that time was abhorrent and made a bad situation worse. after all, the guy did say "i'm not a hero, i'm a vietnam vet." with a derisive laugh.

 

Define "full of shit"...where I come from it means a person is lying, and I don't think this guy is lying...I think he believes what he is saying is true.

I'm pretty sure, Yes, he is lying. I don't care how crazy you say the man is, in order for him to believe what he is saying he has to lie to himself. What do you think he consciously experienced all his lies in his own little world?

Hopefully someone like that isn't on the streets.
