Honestly, from what I've seen so far, next gen games don't look any different from current games. GTA 5 looks friggin' amazing on my 8 year old system, the best comparison to next gen I've seen so far is watchdogs preview. That didn't even look to have a decent frame rate, It had terrible background screen tearing glitches actually.

Have you seen the difference in specs though? It's just insane.

The PS4 has over 16x the RAM capability of the PS3, over 8x the CPU, massive storage capacity, everything is much, much better.

    Hardware-wise it's a huge leap.

I saw significant graphically difference in the latest Assassins creed on xbox360 and the new xbox. Although I haven't been as skepctic before neither about the next gen consoles of playstation and xbox I think I'll judge after it has been in use for awhile. There is often no purpose in comparing 2 different games like GTA5 for 360 and a game like Watchdogs for xbone that are really different kind of games. If you compare Watchdogs with The Division for example you might get a far more positive impression. So if you ask me I'd say I still see some potention for sure. The main thing that turned me off was of course the ideas of Xbox regarding second hand games and obligated online connecting that they happily seemed to have cancelled. Still, I don't see anything really special yet so far either but on the other hand they are both really new on the market. In the end it's about the games you can play on them for me. And most of them have to be released yet.

Watch the video at 1:35, Diminishing Returns. 64MB to 512MB was huge leap compared to 512MB to 8GB. It may be the same physical hardware ratio but it does not relate to the scale of noticeable software improvements. It's not about the hardware so much as noticeable differences in games.

I watched that. Well, I for one didn't really expected an equally big leap in that regard. But isn't that indicating mostly the graphics. Graphics are of course only one aspect of a game. Now I don't see it happen either that gameplay, creativity and difficulty will all be more balanced and I do see there is gonna be more emphasis to let you pay extra for downloadable content and interactive shit i am not waiting for either. I'm not sure the problem lies with the hardware specs.

Another potential problem with this new generation, storage technology hasn't changed. One of my biggest peeves about the PS3 is the games that install to the HD and make you wait. 5-10 minutes or more sometimes before you can start a game. But most times game loading screens are tolerable, because the PS3 and 360 only have 512MB.

The RAM essentially limits a game level loading time because that all that can be loaded at one time. Some games optimize this loading into RAM much better than others but with 8GB of RAM, the potential is there for some seriously huge loading times. We're talking Commodore computer days loading times.

They will all be eventually limited to how much the human eye can handle.

Some people had trouble with filmakers switching fom 24 to 48 frames per second

relaxx is ight the big wow factor jumps were back when we first saw PS1, then 1 to 2, higher def isnt going to give as much bang fo the buck as well.

And the same basic logic in gameplay remains, you are still going to get 3 sleepless nights into Spyro then get pissed off cos you have to back to previous levels try and find every damn jewel to unlock the next one, just now in higher def.

Trying to get to things like a holodeck in Star trek where you have your own room thats just one big surround 3D double super duper hi def TV, unlikely to happen as it will just give everyone motion sickness and headaches

You really can tell the difference between PS4 and PS3, both visually and the speed it boots up/loads. Also, the controller is fair superior in my opinion.

There is a difference, but not a huge difference yet... the point is now that the console has improved so much you will see huge improvements to the games, ps4 only has what like 10 games out right now? in a couple years you will never want to go back to ps3 again.

I'm good on waiting till PS4 drops to $150... but if one just so happens to "fall off of a truck" I might think about it lol. PS3's great as far as I'm concerned.
