If that's a given to get a fanbase that consists of 15 year olds what would that say about bands like Rammstein or Marilyn Manson :p

True. But if they did it they'd not look as "kvult". It's probably just an image thing. Since they blatantly suck balls I don't care.

I think they are kvlt enough, they curated one day at Roadburn this year and they don't get invited for that for nothing. I don't feel anything by their decision not to play with them but humor. Anyway, although it's probably a marketing action to get attention, I think it's good for them if they really would take it that seriously and refuse to (with the words of the imaginary being) 'fraternize with a christian band'

Not at all, depends on the focus, themes and style of the bands approach. It's only a generalization to think every black metal band's theme is to attack christianity or religion in general but they still can have the views. Especially when the roots of the band are black metal but the lyrics focus more on philosophy or their own countries historical beliefs etc. Anyway, they aren't true black metal for years anymore anyway so this action is equally logical to me.

mmm if by philosophy you mean how Venom was in legions with Satan and against christianity.... then Idk wtf your talking about blk metal not being against christainity in its "roots" :D

i can see not agreeing to play somewhere cause the show doesn't suit your type of music and/or the other bands just suck but to pull out the 'we won't play because there's a christian band' card just screams of someone grasping for Black Metal brownie points

this just furthers my beliefs that Black Metal is the new Glam Metal, all about the image....

i mean who gives a flying fuck what another band believes in and sings about? Heavy Metal, at the end of the day is about not giving a shit about what others do and playing the music you want to play LOUD and PROUD and Black Metal is supposed to be the 'truest' to this creed so what the hell?

I agree it serves no other purpose then the image or getting attention but I think there's a difference between heavy metal and black metal. And which genre is the 'truest' is of course an hilarious subjective debate.

Heavy Metal is the mother genre, Black Metal is different to it of course but not enough to warrant it as it's own entity. not a little bit

and i didn't say or argue if Black Metal was the truest, but a big part of that genre is about 'being true' and your cred a lot more than the other sub genres

Yeah, you're right that being true is a part of the black metal band- or subculture, but the themes in the music are primarily about other things. Their conflicting views with christianity and humanism are what they say led to this decision. I agree that in reality this is most likely also ment to profile themselves once again as 'staying true to their black metal origins' but perhaps some of those bands really take their views seriously and thus do not only look to profile themselves as true but to carry out their views. Of course it just a music genre but you know, there's always some that take it (too) seriously.

My question is, how different would this thread be if it said, "Enslaved refuse to play with Nazi band..."

Would people still be so eager to accuse them of being sell outs, caring about their image, or being "unlogical"?

No because its not something they often speak out against. Well not as often as christianity. And it almost seems like they are allowing religion to stop them from playing their music in one way or another. I dunno, that's just the way I look at it.

By not doing the show, I have little doubt Enslaved is in fact hurting the xtian band. Enslaved is a huge band, I'd be willing to be most of the people who were going to attend the show would do it for them. Well, not any more...

When my band played our schools talent show our vocalist made fun of all the hardcore fags in the audience.

Between our 1st and 2nd song he talked and was like "you guys like From Greater Heights?" (local fag band). and a couple chicks and like 2 dudes cheered and he says "more like From Greater Bites" and our drummer did that little drum roll that people do after a joke and the WHOLE AUDIENCE laughed. I didn't even think it was funny and I told him not to do that.

Then goes "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FUCKIN' METAL!!!!!!!" with his horns in the air and we broke into No Reason To Exist by Kreator.

I was surprised they didn't pull the plug on us because the teachers who made the talent show specifically told HIM not to swear.

We almost always play that second because he always says something between the 1st and 2nd song and it just goes in so fucking smoothly.

I just love the opening to that song so much.... WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I WRITE IT!!!
