Well...I live in an apartment. If the shit hits the fan I figure I'm better off on my own than trapped here with my CD collection, lol. Maybe I watch too much Man vs. Wild?
Here's the walking "meat market" This photo was taken about an hour ago. A cow moose and 2 calf's. They really like our old willow tree. .........Dennis
Well, I work in a mountain resort that grows its own vegetables, and I have a house there too, so if I'm hungry, I'll just go to the vegetable garden and have all the salad I want. Seriously though, I think it's time I gave a little more thought to emergency preparedness. I have a flashlight and lots of matches, water. But I don't have food rations like cans, rice and frozen meat. Oh well, I can always raid the restaurant's storeroom I also don't have a first aid kit. Speaking of first aid kit, I don't remember reading any post here that mentioned one. Why is that? Also, it's important to be trained in first-aid, which I am.
Musikero: Mountain resort in P.I., could it be in the Baggio area ? Did mention a first-aid kit post number 7 and in the F.E.M.A. links also on the Alaska site. I would recomend everyone to take a first-aid and CPR course. If one is available in your area, a industrial first-aid or EMT-1 course will give you a lot more info and training. Heres a site outlining a basic kit. Something to build on for your needs and enviroment. http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/firstaid_safe/home/firstaid_kit.html .................Dennis
If anyone is interested, here is a link to site that fast links you to basic "be prepared sites to hard core survivalist sites ". http://www.sharelynx.com/misc/alternative10.php Any feedback ?.......Dennis
Alaskan, Your living in a fantasy world. You are trying to prepare for something that will never happen and if it does you won't be able to do anything about it. You seem to think that only the survival skills you determine are important are important. Basically I can't even follow this thread because you designate yourself as an authority on everything you say (I've looked at your other threads and posts) If someone challenges you, you accuse them of not sticking to the subject. Does survival require following one line of thought without the ability to adapt to anything else that comes up. Frankly, I live in the city and you have put a crimp in my life style. I try to establish a line of communication with you and you lie to me and then pull some technical hyjinks whereby I can no longer post to your thread. A survivalist, MAYBE, an American dissident, out of the question. Your a doctor, I should have known you were a liar. I can't take liars seriously whether they are suvivalists or experts on survival or not. YES, don't wonder about it, this is a personal attack.
Safetypin: It's starting to sound like your ready for a "Tune up and a rethink on your meds". Sounds like its time for a seclusion room and some prn's. Most folks wont understand, but I sure you've been there befor.. Dr.Alaskan...
And you would have a very good idea of what that entails too, mwoudn't you, because although you are not a psychiatrist you "are?" an MD. Thanks for the reality check. peace bro' and get rid of all that fire power, even in Alaska some folks are bound to see it as a threat
Safeypin: I will sum up my educational background for you, since you seem to dwell on it. I am a high school grad, I have an A.A. in sociology of chemical dependences, A A.S.in Nursings Sciences, A B.N S. in Nursing , A M.S. in Marine Technologies. No where in my resume do I have a M.D. or a P.H.D. Like I've said,I run a heating business and a greenhouse. Like I've said , let'sget back on topic,,,,OK ?????
Sure thing Alaskan. I like you better all ready. All those AA's, AANS's or what have you are very impressive, don't have any idea what they are but as long as there are no MD's among them, there more impressive than they might otherwise be. Peace bro' hang onto your firepower, guns can be looked at as tools, they don't have to be weapons, if you have no food, a gun can be used as a tool for gettin some (hunting for it), aren't the making of tools and the use of them one of the things that distinguishes us from the animals. Animals will use tools but they don't make them.
Alaskan, I went to Ohio State University for a year, flunked out and then went to Long Island University for a year and a half more and dropped out. However I have a post graduate degree in the "School of Hard Knocks," an SoHK, if you will, (I'm just being facetious). Back in the day a lot of people in psyc. hospitals were talking about that kind of thing.
As we have seen in the last week in the U.S., Hurricane force storms in N.Y.C., more flooding in areas across country, wildfires with people having to evacuate. Todays headlines a the possible dirty bombs in L.A., N.Y.C. or Miami area. So maybe a "go-box" isn't such a bad idea. So maybe now is the time you all put a little something aside.
Alaskan, I don't want to be disruptive, but I really am infuriated by the focus of your thread. Probably I should hunker down, open some of the links and try really hard to learn from some of the things that are being said and the information that is being diseminated. However, I just don't have the stamina to involve myself in every aspect of survival. So I pose this idea to you. Natural catastrophies are horrible and maybe there are a lot of things you can do to to prepare for them that will increase your chances of survival; but natural catastrophies, while human beings play a part in their occurence, they have not, to this point, purposely created them to wipe each other out. On the other hand, war, oppresion, and using the threat of force or real force to control those who want to be free are things that humans use purposely, to either end the lives of other people, or to make them feel worthless. In any discussion of survival I think the things I have just mentioned are relevent.
Safetypin: As the header on this thread is " Emergency Preparedness", not survival ism. If you open the FEMA link I posted you will find a very simple and well written series of subjects covering family planning to take care of your family during a crisis. These include Food storage, water, first aid and a plan to mention a few. Nowhere has the subject of digging in to survive a nuke attack and the aftermath. As of today the big island of Hawaii has a hurricane headed their way and the stores shelfs are empty. Wouldn't it be great if the population already had a weeks worth of supplies set aside and could hunker in and let the wind blow. These are the situations I was addressing when I started this thread. Just watch the movie "When the Levey broke" a Spike Lee film. About the aftermath of Katrina. As showed, the government isn't going to help you, you are on your own.
Want to re-open this thread, what with the southern california wild fires. Can anyone say a kit is not in anyones best interest.
hmmmm i am surprised hhb aint never posted in this thread,,, tis so up our alley... we have guns, we have ammo,, dont ask me what thats hhb's dept... we have rootcellar for cold storage, we keep about a years worth of food in freezers and in stock piles at any given time,,, we have our own walking meat markets here,( eggs too) i hoard condiments from any restaurants,,, we keep a small stash of gas for powering tools etc here, have chainsaws for wood (heat and cooking) , water here is not a big issue, we collect it all now we have a spring on property n although not great producing it would suffice, we have the pond for critters etc as well, we keep the generator on hand and ready if needed .We could be solar in a day if we chose to go that route,,, and we will when money permits... of course we have candles n kerosene n lamp oil n lamps etc,,, the place was originally built here in case of shtf,,, house is strategically located on land etc,,, i do know i need to build up our first aid kit,,, we have things for minor emergency situations for short term but not much in long term,,, in my opinion,, anyone that does not keep a stash for emergencies is a complete fool,,, but many seem to think it is the govts responsibility to tend to our needs in all sorts of situations... n who am i to try n change them... just means more for me in the end
