i love the song that goes:

    drink up baby
    stay up all night
with the things you could do
    you wont, but you might
    the potential you'd be
    if you'd ever see
    ..........?forget that line
    chorus: people you've been before
that you dont want aorund anymore
they push and shove and wont bend to your will
    i'll keep them still

it is a beautiful song and first intrigued me into liking elliot smith....but this was yrs ago and i still dont have any of his albums:(

im a rather big fan. I got recommended to him by a friend...and once i heard a few of his songs, i feel in love with them! and then a week after i heard of him...he dies...it was very sad :(

you MUST own the album "either/or". Has some of his best songs on there. Another good one is "Elliott Smith" or "XO", but get "either/or" first if any.

When did he die? I just watched the Royal Tenebaums and theres a bit where this guy tries to kill himself and "needle in the hay" is playing and it just fits the scene perfectly.

He died in 2003, he stabbed himself in the heart. Damn shame.

He also tried suicide before. Once he tried jumping off a bridge but he landed in a tree and like broke both his legs.

I dont know who this guy is, but that is aweful. If you had to say someone his music reminded you of, who would you say? I'm gonna look into him..

i think his music genre is indie, if you've ever listened to nico id say their sounds are somewhat similar..both are depressing

he is a singer/songwriter. Sort of in the same genre as Nick Drake. Some people relate him to the beatles...though i dont see much resemblance. Although if you ever get to hear his cover of "because", its phenominal!
