Most modern western democracies have eliminated the death penalty. Is eliminating life imprisonment the next logical step? (Read the following article too. It's interesting. The Pope supports this movement.) https://archive.ph/20141024002736/http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1404377.htm
Perhaps the pope should offer accomodation for the psychopaths and serial killers in the Vatican. Here in the UK, people sentenced to a whole life term would always pose a threat if they were released.
Yessir--I'd like to respect the human dignity of that guy that raped the 10 year old. And the good folks that kill people for money. Why shouldn't they be back out on the streets. I'm sure they're good people at heart---why anyone can make a mistake. Even dumb fucks in dresses and funny hats.
I am genuinely shocked. Here in the UK, we have 66 prisoners serving whole life terms, while in the US, the figure is more than 55,000, not to mention the 2,500 on death row. We have around 8,000 serving sentences with parole between 10 and 30 years. The US figure is more than 200,000 Here in London, we have a standing joke, about the government reintroducing the death penalty for stopping on a yellow line.
I just wanted to add, in most countries, especially western European, they seem to do things better than we do in the USA. For example, they realize universal health care is a fundamental right. And they typically have much less crime too. So I was actually wondering too. How do they keep some people from reoffending?
