I agree - we cant live without ego. The point of psychedelics should not be to help us renounce our egos. Rather it is to allow us to grasp them and understand what they are, who we are, instead of taking it for granted.

If we all lived without egos we would probably do nothing, we would all be assuming we are already in the afterlife or whtaever. But we are not. We need to take care of our body's and house them and defend them from other people. We need to communicate and relate to other people in specific ways in order for the society we live in today to function.

That said, you can always go up onto a mountain and renounce your life's creation (your ego)

but most of us dont really want to do this. The ego includes our goals, it includes the relevance of things to our specific lives. It includes all of our social reactions and all of our expectations.

Although these things can often lead to negativity, they are functionally required by most of us, and for good reason

A good and healthy understanding of the ego would serve any psychonaut well.

If you ask me, the purpose of psychedelics is to grow back into harmony with Nature, as I believe these chemicals are produced by Nature for us to be able to understand Her, and the other purpose of psychedelics (which is one in the same, really) is to force us to confront our beliefs with the doubt we usually hide from. Which, naturally are stored in the source of our concept of isolated consciousness, where it gets all mixed up.
As for ego, of course we need it to survive, otherwise it wouldnt exist. I mean that much should be obvious?
    God Bless

though egos come in many kinds, and perhaps we are better off without certain ego constructs, even if we need others

there are ego constructs that thrive off of power, and there are ego constructs that thrive off of hope and love.

the kinds that thrive off power are the bad kind which lead to conflict, death, and hate.
