Have you ever privately thought of a good idea regarding climate change or pollution control that you've never heard discussed before? I don't mean something like eating less meat or getting solar panels; which are well known tactics we've all heard about. I mean something of your own; something that would probably never get enforced, but that if it did, that we'd all benefit enormously from. Here's a few I've thought of.

•You know all those cleaners who are required to remove the bins every 6 hours or whatever? Well imagine if they were mandated not to replace any bin unless it was more than half full, or unless there were something in there that would likely cause a bad smell. Imagine how much plastic we'd safe! And that's the sort of plastic that doesn't get recycled.

•This is something that I always think about. You know when you get handed some tissues in a restaurant; how much of those tissues do you actually use? The same with things like mayonaise and ketchup. This would be an easy way for the nation to reduce its carbon footprint if there were set rules surrounding the amount of such items being handed out on any one go. There would still be a lot of waste as you'd have to factor in convenience, but if you were to imagine how much it would add up to! Imagine how many truck loads of ketchup, or how many trees that would be? How much free land fill space.

•If you had regular ads on the TV to remind people not to put more water in their kettle than necessary during peak TV times. In my country there are ads for things like road safety, so it would be good to also have ads like this!

•Having a law that would forbid companies to re-brand. Can you think of the amount perfectly good items with the old company logo on them that has to get thrown out... and how that very same company is probably claiming to environmentally conscious?

•Banning soft drink companies from demanding that their drink be made from clear plastic. If all companies signed up to this, then plastic could actually be 'recycled'... and not just downcycled. If all companies had to do it, people would soon get over the fact that their bottle doesn't look cool.

You'd want to be a dictator in order to have such systems implemented. Unfortunately a lot of people say "why should I contribute if the multi-million dollar companies won't?", and that these companies should be taxed more; but please, that's not what this thread is about. I hope for this thread to be strictly about ideas of your own that we haven't heard discussed before.

Leaving the vehicle engine running while in slow moving drive thru lines. Most everyone does but I remember reading once that if the wait time before moving forward is more than 7 seconds, it’s more efficient to turn the engine off.

After decades of research, I discovered that the workaholic Japanese and white US and EU populations have imploding for over half a century, while calling the rest of the world lazy bums. The money is actually doing all the driving worth talking about, all by itself, and the idiots are killing themselves so fast its setting a new record for voluntary genocide. There are some 20 million illegal aliens in the US, because the peasants keep migrating towards the best sources of food, and the white population of the US is being replaced with other ethnic groups, just as eager to sell their culture for money and a wall sized TV.

After a century of concerted efforts, nobody has ever documented the existence of common sense anywhere in the world. The obvious solution to climate change, it to tell the idiots they have no common sense.

Rid the world of plastic. Make containers of recyclable tin, glass and the extremely tough paper containers.

yah really. just lower the human birthrate and quite worshiping the automobile.
solar powered narrow gauge railways and monorails, every ware there is pavement now and instead of it.

i think quite making everything have to be about little green pieces of paper too, although some things could probably still be,
just not really this idea, that so many people seem to think everything would have to be terrible, if it wasn't.

put something in the water that would make everyone less fertile, regardless of who or what they might happen to be,
or in the air, somehow that one percenters wouldn't be able to escape either. and start with them instead of vulnerable minorities either.

not saying there's anything wrong with being well off either, just that it needn't be a get our of anything free card.

The workaholic populations are imploding, but the wealthy just keep importing more to replace them. The money has taken on a life of its own, and is killing the people who make money, replacing them, and destroying the world ecology in the process. Almost half of all Wall Street transactions are done by machines and, soon, they will replace traders altogether. What we require is an entirely new economy, that actually supports living organisms, but that will require the next scientific revolution, which is overdue.

The Japanese are working to replace themselves with friendly robots.

Make bicycle lanes adjacent to or in between the lanes of every freeway/ major road across the nation. I believe millions of people would ride the lanes, even for hundreds or thousands of miles, especially with camping areas every 100 miles or so. I think that would remove cars from the highways and improve the health of any citizen that chose to ride them.

That's all very good, but what's it got to do with this issue?
Any recommended solution needs to be specific.Yours would not help.

At least most modern cars shut off the engine in these cases automatically.

Yeah. They're doing a lot of that in my country.

It mightn't work in some places like Texas. You'd have the republican voters throwing stuff out the windows at the cyclists who they'd view as liberals!

    Yeah, like it's that simple.
You're saying to get rid of the pavements
That wouldn't be ethical, and I (as it happens) would escape that water... because I have my own well!

By the way - it's quit, not quite.

Goddamn, this. Absolutely this. One of the biggest tragedies was when the soft drink industry adopted the plastic bottle. During the past 30 years now the litter from all those discarded plastic bottles has become a major issue and a source for the micro plastic particles polluting both ground and water. This needs to be reversed, and a return should be made to the good old days of glass bottles with aluminum bottle caps. Both materials, which recycle much easier, not to mention, preserve the drink much better anyway. I'm old enough to remember the days when even the larger size Coca-Cola bottles were made of glass, and we should definitely go back to that.

Another thing would be that reforestation efforts all over the world should be doubled at the minimum, even including adding more forest plots to urban areas. Plant life absorbs the greenhouse gasses that we produce. The more trees there are, the better the air gets filtered, not to mention, this also helps to support the ecosystems that we too ultimately rely on. This is not just worth doing, it's worth overdoing, and actually realistic too.

You can also claim the moon is made of cheese but, no matter how often you say it, claiming something is irrelevant without a rational explanation, doesn't make it so your majesty.

I like trees! Good thing, as I was a Forester with the US Forest Service for many years. In the late 60s and early 70s I supervised planting programs on National Forest land in Wisconsin that put about 500,000 trees in the ground. Many of those stands are quite impressive today. I agree with your ideas....Even the idea of bottle deposits for plastic bottles has been squashed in many states by the beverage companies.

You're the one who made the claim. So explain to me how it is relevant to this thread?

People laugh at me all the time, for suggesting the solution to the world's problems is to use a stupid dictionary, share our words, and play nice more often on the playground. So my book describes how make any playground lynch mob pay for the privilege of lying nonstop and abusing people and the earth. It contains all the linguistics, mathematics, sociology, neurology, immunology, and physics, and describes how to quantify any intellectual Three Stooges slapstick.
