Edge of Tomorrow Movie Blurb by Shale June 6, 2014 On the 70th anniversary of D-Day, I went to a movie about the invasion of Normandy to stop an aggressor from conquering the world. Srsly, this movie is about an alien invasion of our planet where most of the ppl were wiped out in the same areas once controlled by the Nazi's in the last century and our story is in England the day before the massive assault on Normandy the next day. Major William Cage (Tom Cruise) is the mouthpiece for the military putting good spin on the war against these aliens that is going badly for humans. For some reason, he pisses someone off in command and gets assigned to embed with the real troops during the invasion. Cage tries every way to get out of going to combat and when he failed to follow orders, he is arrested, stripped of his rank and handed over in cuffs to the Drill Sergeant (Here you will see a switch in the roles that Cruise usually plays - where he is sweating and really pissing his pants scared.) He muddles thru getting into the exo-skeletal suit with armaments needed to fight these aliens and doesn't know exactly how to fire his weapon. The invasion is done with huge airships, where the soldiers are to jump on tethers to the beach. Private Cage lands, sees most of his comrades meet horrible deaths before he too is blown up with an alien on top of him. Private Cage Landing on Beach at Normandy Movie Over? No, just as it happened repeatedly in Source Code (2011) the scene reboots. Cage wakes up at the moment he is delivered to boot camp. Sort of confused about this real dream but he soon finds out that everything is the same as before. And, he goes off on the landing ship and the same ppl die as before, including him. After a while of repeats he has memorized this day and has started making changes on the battlefield, surviving a little more each time. Then he meets Rita Vrataski (Emily Blunt) on the battlefield where they both get killed several different times until she tells him to find her when he wakes up. Rita & Cage in Battle Rita has done well in previous battles and survived so she is the poster girl for the war effort. Cage sneaks away from his unit and finds her in her special training room honing her skills, where they recognize each other as having the same ability to remember the war tomorrow when they return to today. Rita puts Cage thru some intensive training on each of the days they return. Rita Vrataski in Training There is some explanation for how Rita and Cage have become a part of this temporal loop. There are also some comedic moments with them in this reality, when things are going wrong and they want to reboot, she just shoots him in the head. After a while he starts pleading with her - but the bitch is cold. They also determine their mission is to keep learning how to survive that day on the beach-head and get inland to fight the aliens. Rita & Cage Away From Beach This movie was liked by most reviewers and audiences and I liked it as well. It will take another viewing to see how all the temporal stuff holds up, but it looked pretty solid. I think I've enjoyed every movie with Tom Cruise and this one with him playing a coward who is forced to become the leading man was much different than his others.
So itching to see this movie, going to see it the weekend, this is the one I've been looking forward most this year. Say what you want about Cruises' weird Hubbard thumping alter ego, but love every movie he is in
