Like I said it depends on the motive why they were bullied with ebola if it is an ebola related issue or not. If they were bullied because they recently came from a country associated with ebola it can be perceived as an ebola related issue. If they were bullied because of their funny accents and the fact they were born in Africa or were there recently on holiday or something (as it seemed to me after reading KarenJ's post and the first reaction to that) does not make it an ebola related issue.
Well, not to be a smartypants but just because it can be perceived as ebola related doesn't mean it should actually be perceived that way. I know how and why kids bully other kids and they will use any word that comes to mind. If kids and adults are talked scared of ebola and the threat of getting it by people that were in ebola affected countries does it sound to you that they really understand what ebola is when they jump on supposed risk factor and beat them up?
So are all these school things taking place in the southern states like Georgia and Alabama? no surprise there considering the average IQ in those states....
You don't know why the bullying happened... You can't assume it wasn't ebola related just because kids bully other kids. Possible nothing would have happened if it wasn't for ebola being in the news.
It was reported that the beating of the 6th grader and the 8th grader was in the Bronx - New York, or can't you read?
I only catch up with the media's news over the internet. So I don't know about how wildly different ebola may have been portrayed on the Television. Article wise I think it's been pretty fair, it's usually just stating facts, and even has tried to downplay the hysteria some people have thought should be accompanied with it.
I'm not saying I do know for sure in this particular situation. But I do think it is pretty sure if it wasn't for the sensational approach of ebola in the media anyway it would not have gotten this media attention. Then it would be regarded as mainly a case of severe bullying. Not an ebola related issue. That's the main thing I am saying. I understand it has its place in this thread but not the case on itself necessarily (as a kid beating another kid up because he'd visited an ebola affected country after it was declared ebola free is not an ebola related issue to me), but because of how we know about it (everything that can be connected to the thing called ebola will get a lot of attention in US media, wether it serves any purpose or not).
They know it's something bad that comes from Africa. Let's get real, there are plenty of stupid Americans who think Africa is a country.
I don't own a television. I hear these local reports on local talk radio sometimes flipping through channels in the car. My news comes from searching the internet.
This morning, the nurse in Maine went for a bike ride, with the media swarming around her like she was Princess Diana. Upon her return, she got a visit from the local police chief. He didn't arrest her, but warned her that some local people were making anonymous threats to injure or kill her. A huge dilemma for government officials to deal with is the risk of violence in the streets if the most paranoid policies are not enforced. Depending on the way things are handled, we could end up with a higher death toll from Ebola panic than from Ebola. What a mess!
its kind of a stupid argument anyways. No one is wrong here. Yes, obviously its something related to Ebola in the media because how else would the kids know what Ebola is? But also obvious is the fact that its good ol fashioned bullying. The kids obviously didn't have a real understanding of Ebola or they wouldn't have touched someone they suspected of having Ebola. They just knew the kids were African and therefore different from them, and they also know Ebola comes from Africa which gives them am easy excuse to bully someone they would have bullied anyways.
Here's the headline that Pressed Rat has been waiting on. Fearing Ebola? Doctors Say Get a Flu Shot http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/fearing-ebola-doctors-flu-shot-26574214
lol what....no way. Anything that can be made into profit here will be. Although many employers pay for their employees to get flu shots because sick leave=loss of profit too
