To be honest, my overall diet has improved since going "vege", because I'm actually keeping tabs on my whole diet, not just protein. I'm doing it lazily, I gotta admit, but fuck counting calories and all that other shit, it's a complete waste of time and energy in my opinion.. listen to your body and it'll tell you what it needs.

Your retarded if you think vegetarians don't get enough protein sorry but its true. Tell a gorilla he doesn't get enough protein lol. There is protein in literally everything, leafy greens, seeds, peanuts. literally almost everything has protein and its the last thing i worry about in my diet. Also plant proteins are easier for your body to absorb thus making it healthier. The more you know :)

I find it interesting that no one has mentioned wild game. I by far prefer wild game and fish to farmed meat.

The last time I ate beef, pork, or any other kind of red meat was in 1975. The last time I ate chicken was 1986. I continue to eat fish and other seafood. My health is very good.

I love the taste of beef, but after 39 years I am not at all tempted to have any. I think I made excellent choices.

Yes, as a vegan i think hunting is perfectly fine. sometimes its used to balance an ecosystem so it is necessary. I myself couldn't kill an animal, but if you can that's the way to go for your meat eating endeavors.

By the way, I have read that the grain quinoa provides a complete protein.

I think even "free range," organic, grass fed, blah blah blah meat is unethical to be honest. Raising an animal for food is something I've always felt wrong about.

Indeed, I usually buy venison off a hunter friend in the fall, freeze it, and eat it throughout the winter.

Yes, quinoa is one of the few complete proteins in the plant world, although if you eat a well balanced diet your body will digest the various incomplete plant proteins as whole proteins.

Why? A free range cow can have a better life than a wild cow. They both die and will be nibbled on too :p

I have always thought of lions as unethical pricks.

Free range is an extremely loose term in the farming industry.

I'm not sure if this was directed towards me or not. For the record, no. They're hunting and gathering their own food. Survival of the fittest, as nature intended.

One of the arguments that some of my friends put forward concerning the evil lion thing is that we, as humans, have reached a stage where we can choose our diet.

Years ago, just like the lion, we needed to eat meat as it was necessary for our survival. Now, however, we have a highly sophisticated agricultural industry which can easily provide everything we need, plus more..
Globalisation means we can import and export food to climates where they wouldn't usually grow, filling dietary gaps. Quinoa, for example has given the world a rich source of plant based protein.

    The lion can't do that.

There's no real need for meat anymore. I agree that people should raise and slaughter their dinner at least once.. it brings a little bit of realism into your life.
Also, as I said earlier, I think people should try the vege thing for a little bit to experience the difference in their bodies. That's been my turning point..

I tried going vegan once and it was a huge shock to my system. It would seem my guts don't like the constant bombardment of fruit and vegetables as they release too much gas during digestion. This caused my body to go into stress and I started to develop stomach ulcers that burned and burned the more vegetables and fruit I ate which probably had something to do with the acidity. Now my body broke down everything and anything into almost liquid back then and I was diagnosed with the irritable bowel syndrome that gets around. These problems persisted until I threw my arms in the air and said fuck it, this diet does not work for me. I smashed a meal from maccas with no problems. No burns no gas, nothing. First meal in weeks where my guts weren't trembling and churning after a bite to eat. It was embarrassing. I couldn't go anywhere quiet while trying vegan diet, all you'd hear would be my stomach violently grumbling.

    Never again.

    I did.

I didn't call it that specifically but I said I get all my meat from people around here that I know who kill an animal... I guess that doesn't necc. mean wild game per say... but it def means not farmed meat... either meaning wild game or small, family farmed meat- in which case, I eat both.

I'm a fan of quinoa although (and no, YOU didn't say this but it drives me nuts when some ppl call it a grain and not what it is-a seed.) :)

and yea, people give us parts of deer and other animals they kill... large parts which we freeze and have through the year. I know some people don't eat pork, for non-religious reasons but health reasons but in any case, someone recently gave us some wild pig too... let's say it this way.. I made one large ham steak from it the other day (the first I've tried of it but the bacon which we've used too) and it's WAY diff than pork you buy in any store. It's really good-def gamey but I like that.

I see. In my eyes, an animal raised for the sake of eating it, is farming. I see what you're trying to say though.
