I agree with Trickster. I've had endometriosis. The ONLY thing which helped was narcotics.

My endo is better (with meds, surgery and having an other baby) but I have a chronic pain disorder from an other cause. It's my RIGHT to treat my pain. The pain I suffer every day is a great deal MORE stressful than anything any drug I take can put on my body. If I weren't treated, I would not only be so depressed I could not function at all, I would NOT be able to get out of bed, and the stress of the pain could well have damaged my heart. Severe pain needs to be treated. If drugs are what works, then that is NO ONE'S business except the one who is experiencing the pain.

Try being in pain, at a level of 8 or 9 on a 10 scale 24 hours a day, 365 days a week for years on end, and tell me THAT isn't the most stressful thing ever. The only people who rail against pharmecueticals are those who have been FORTUNATE enough to not NEED them. (off soap box, now.) josai, I pray you never have pain severe enough to NEED medication. You've had a damn fortunate life so far to not have needed them. I'd be DEAD without them, honey.

How, may I ask, do drugs harm the enviroment? It's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

When I was young and stupid (which I took care of at a very early age) I took pills recreationally. After that, I spent years on just keeping my system clean and not taking ANY pills (not even an Ibuprofen for like 3 years). Then within a year's time I had (1)an ovarian cyst caused torsion in my fallopian tube, cutting off all cirulation to my right ovary, and had to have major surgery to right the situation, (2) an ankle sprain so bad that the ER doctors didn't understand how my bones hadn't snapped(it took a month before I could even take the splint off w/o screaming) and (3) a MRSA staph infection, which is very hard to treat because it is resistant to almost all antibiotics, and causes a person to break out in painful sores all over the infected area.

I quickly learned to have a healthy respect for medication - and pain medicine in particular! I still NEVER do the stuff recreationally (I mean, how stupid would I have to be?) but I try to keep something handy just in case, because who the heck wants to be in such pain!?

I'm actually having two minor surgeries soon to see whether i have endometriosis. You'd be surprised how many girls have no idea what it is. There are a lot of things regarding womens health that should be taught apart the usual.

I've found that for less severe cramping, eating dark chocolate helps....Just relaxes ya and your muscles enough to let the pain go.

It really depends on the level of pain. If it is really severe, no usual ideas will work. With sever pain comes shock, chocolate, water bottles etc don't even take the edge off. But oh the relief when the pain goes. Those who experience it so badly, know how lucky some girls are who don't have bad cramps.

yeah, me too! i have never experienced the type of SEVERE pain that you have, but i have had days where i couldn't get out of bed & had to miss class/work & i found natural ways to cope

there is definately a place for meds. i believe in complementary medicine. natural approaches when possible & allopathic help when necessary....it sounds like in some cases (like those you've discussed) that the meds are what is needed

what do you mean? what kind of medications?
i think that most meds would not biodegrade since they're not from a natural source. there have been soooo many stories about aquatic animals being effected by the meds that eventually end up in the water
