I don't know. I made a tye dye shirt in school in the 70s in some art class. I have no idea what the ink was made of though. Gotta pat myself on the back because that shirt came out looking really cool, lol. I wish I still had it today.
No, but I'm going to visit my Mom next week (half a world away/350 miles) and I'll ask her if she has a photo of it.
oh geeze this reminded me of some doilies i used to suck on...i think my grandmother used sugar to stiffen them up
Here's a tutorial on dying feathers with koolaid... Don't see why it wouldn't work for fibers. And no it doesn't bleed. http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/forums/general-fly-tying-discussions/305491-koolaid-dying.html
Koolaid and similar typically stains protein fibers, wool, silk, hair, feathers. Definitely search for the mordant to set the colors, or if heat is necessary.
And Dying with Kool Aid would make an awesome band name, especially if they played with the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
Ah.. A good distinction, here. Koolaid will stain the fibers, meaning there could be a cure time. But Procion does, too. I'm still thinking heat: bagging the items in a black plastic bag in the sun or baking in the dryer.
