sorry that this happened rat maybe some good will come out of it. things could have been much worse. if you had gotten into an accident, things certainly could have been worse. if the pig that busted you was an even bigger asshole, things could have been worse you'll be ok. you'll have to go through some hassle, but this too shall pass I don't know about how you should handle the legal aspects. if your record is otherwise clean and you don't give the judge the bird, you'll probably be ok hope that things can get better soon!
Thanks to everyone who has offered kind words and advice so far. I really appreciate it. Love you guys.
I didn't say you did. I was just asking if you did think it was unfair, and if you thought it was unfair what should have happened. It sounded slightly unfair to me because I read that if you are convicted you might get jail time, albeit only a week or two.
Yeah, but I don't know how likely that is. Hopefully not very likely. I couldn't imagine spending two weeks in a jail cell, much less a day.
i'm probably in the minority on these forums, but i don't think that smoking and driving is as safe as many. that said, i think that most heavy pot smokers are able to tell when they're capable of getting back behind the wheel (unlike with alcohol), and you seem like an intelligent guy. i'd say you should at least meet with a lawyer... maybe he can convince them that you were nervous and responded without thinking, and that it had actually been 2 or 3 hours since you smoked. you should just move up here... they probably would have given you a $150 ticket for using your phone while driving, and left it at that.
Well, is jail time appropriate/fair? About a decade ago I was busted for a lot worse behaviour while driving, and jail time was never mentioned.
So the fine and the revoking of your licence Is? I'm just asking to determine how much your feelings of your 'punishment' relates to your how you feel about this overall.
well i have no idea where you got any idea of authority in my post here i just dont support impaired drivers.. and i like when they get removed from our highways before they kill someone ..or themselves the tests will either clear him and prove him right...or the results might not clear him ...if he wasnt impaired there's no problem...if he was then he suffers the consequences of getting caught
btw...up here they would add another fine for $150 for using cell phone while driving...plus a possible careless charge (also for cellphone while driving)
Wow that sucks, I've know how it feels. I've been pulled over for DUI twice and luckily both times the cops let me go. I got a friend who went the "lawyer" route. From what he said, unless the cops messed up (didn't dot an "i" or cross a "t") you're almost guarantee to be found guilty. Of course this all depends on the results of your toxicology report. Hopefully it comes back in your favor. Almost every one of my friends has gotten at least one dui and some have gotten it reduced to "wet reckless" on the first offence.
i know you don't want to hear it, but your biggest mistake was admitting to having smoked. you should have said it was because of changing your music that you swerved. cops prey on your nervousness. and make it seem that if you "co-operate" that they'll go easy on you. never true IME. wear a suit to court. do you have to go to the city one? they deal with a lot more serious shit, and the defendants are wearing sweatpants.
I agree with this. I've been stopped before and rather than say I was on drugs (which I was) I told the cops I've been drinking, knowing I would pass a breathalyzer, cuz I had no alcohol in my system. That time the cops ended up taking my week and letting me go.
Don't beat yourself up over it man, live and learn. Dealing with cops like that, it's verbal and body language Judo...never let them catch you off-balance.
That really sucks Matt, I don't have advice since I don't have any experience with this sort of thing... but good luck. In my opinion unless you are just ridiculously high cannabis doesn't really impair driving very much. I am far more worried about people putting on makeup or eating a picnic while trying to drive than people who smoked a little bit.
