I don't know about "relied on", or "only option", but it's a great dietary supplement when the rest of your diet is from food stamps, food banks, and soup kitchens.

The best score I ever had was 1/4 oz of shrooms. We were diving behind student apartments in Athens after the college kids went home looking for stuff to sell at the flea market. Someone left behind a desk which was put by the dumpster when management cleaned out the apartment. Going through the desk, I found the bag duct taped to the back of the bottom drawer. "Only users loose drugs"!

Oh hell yeah, it was hard sometimes but it was fun.
One of my favorite things to do is test my survival skills in situations. I dedicated months to this this year. I have a strange feeling I'm going to need to rely on it someday.

I always carry a slingshot...I've killed a couple birds when I was on the road and camping out.

Dumpster diving is a blessing, sometimes.

Other places like Arcata, CA LOCK all of their dumpsters...

Fishing line/hooks/sinkers are good to carry as well if you're on the road in the middle of america...but a lot of the water is contaminated these days so that kind of turns me off.

I have the same feeling...like I will have to survive without the comforts or reliance from the machine.

I'll be doing it be choice too. Right now I'm saving money to get going on a long joruney...in about a year. I could probably do it without money but I'm not that skilled yet. A little bit of money will allow for some errors and time to learn more.

I never had to rely on DD to get by personally but I would consider it a great resource if needed.

That's very interesting there stalk. Did you go on the road for some time, what did you do?

LOL. I found some ice cream once (nuttybuddy) I think the whole case melted.. But they was still good, and cold only musshy on one side.
Geeeeze were talking ice cream "how fast can you eat it" :)

dont matter if you have money. I meet these really rich ppl and they was horders. They accumulated shit cause they took little things. For example. Soap. TONS of soap is thrown away. You just need to know where to look. Now you dont need to buy soap.
Long ago it was a good thing to be a pack rat, along with some organization you can not only save money from dumpster diving, you can also make money. Money saved is money earned. We seem to forget this simple phrase.

Believing that eating food from dumpsters is subhuman or something???

The food is in cartons shipped no differently. If you kicked it all over the store and dented it 2 seconds from delivery... How badly is it damaged??? Is it trash or just dented smashed foods??
Being able to tell when things are spoiling. You have a NOSE?
Finding that good food has been tossed/ located near germy disease infested dumpster? Pttf I wouldnt be eating behind a fresh foods store or resturaunt.. More grocery store and office complexes are the best location.

Months ago I just left...hitchhiked to the rainbow gathering, got a ride on a school bus to cali, ran all around california going to renegade psychedelic gatherings, getting food for free everywhere, playing music with everybody...spreading the love...
yeah, i was dirty, but I met so many people doing the same thing I was doing. I washed my clothes a couple times, I took showers at friends houses, YMCA, oceans, and rivers.
always carried a knife in my pocket just in case. never encountered anyone too dangerous. when you're in the same situation as them, they can relate.
The one thing that pissed me off was the intelligence of the people on the street.
    Most people are fucking idiots.

I found a tv the other week. Just needed a new plug. Gave it to a coworker.

Usually I won't take the time to look, but if somethings calling... furniture or whatever. Than it's calling.

Seeing how infrequently the trash is collected here (once or twice a week, depending on what company your dumpster's with), and the kind of things we throw away along with waste...uck...I couldn't eat something out of the dumpster. However, I'm pretty crafty about intercepting clerks with waste at the convenience stores between the store and the dumpster. If you catch them at the door, then they consider you're just doing them a favor. I've lived off of those places for months before.

Only people I've ever met who admitted to this shit were dirty hippies who lived in the middle of the woods. They were all fucked up on ketamine and after they climbed out of their K hole they cooked up dumpster sausage.

what my thoughts use to be but I would not have made the post if I was not totally surprised in what I saw and ate when my roomie brought the bag back. The food really tasted perfectly fine, my stomach has not reacted in the least bit and it has been 14 hours and...well, everything is fine.

When I peered in the bag everything actually looked real clean. I mean, they threw away perfectly good, still new food all wrapped up.... I respect my roomie for using it for good instead of wasting it. This isn't half eaten food or food with shit on it. It is day old food in a big tied bag that had been on the shelf less than two hours ago. (After a while you know when a business throws their stuff out).

Plus, "dumpster diving" is just a name for getting free stuff that's been discarded.
    This is a broad term...
It's really not disgusting at all if you are smart about it.
