I went to a place which originated in Buffalo but recently opened in Rochester called Duff's Wings. They are one of the first places to serve Buffalo wings, and supposedly have "awesome" and "incredible wings." "Teh best wingz in teh world", no doubt. I went there tonight and found them to be very average chicken wings.

Don't you find that things that are hyped tend to rarely live up to that hype? Of course there are exceptions, but more often than not things which are hyped are not as good as one might expect them to be.

They are wings, the cheapest part of the chicken, what you expect?

But there are good ones and bad ones, depending on how they're cooked and the sauce that's used.

i look for things that are not hyped. that is if they're anything i'm looking for anyway. hype is one of the many reasons i'm kind of 'meh' about humans in general.
advertising is what it is. and what goes into advertising isn't going into development of product or service.
to those who say we couldn't live without it, i say put the spec's in a catalogue, and if it meets my own top spec for something i need or want, that's what i get.
things i'm not interested in are just an annoyance to even hear about them.

i don't give a shit about trying to impress anyone. if i did, i wouldn't be HERE.

i'm not exposed to a lot of hype because i'm not very social nor watch commercial nor social media.
the whole 'buffalo wing' thing, i never did get. so, someone put some tobasco on their chicken wings and liked it.
that's nice. for them. i've had em. like what's the big deal? or pizza for that matter. or backon?

buffalo, a large wild bovine, or a city in new york state i was born in but moved to the west coast from when i was 3 years old.
my dad took me to the switch tower he worked in for the railroad a couple of time when i was little.
i actually remember a bit of that.

Most places that open up a second location or start to franchise never come close to being as good as the original location

I'm from Niagara Falls and while the original Duff's at the corner of Niagara Falls Blvd and Sheridan is very good, they opened a second one in Niagara Falls itself and it sucks big time. The problem is the employees. You can call the building whatever you want but if the people don't take pride in what they do then the food will suck. Unfortunately there is a serious lack of good employees in Niagara Falls. Almost all of our restaurants are terrible, except for the ones owned and operated by immigrants (Mexican, Indian, Italian, Greek).

I totally agree with you there. Chicken wings are meant to be consumed at home -- not in a restaurant.

why wings anyway. there's so little meat on them. the whole thing is a hype to sell you little flavored bones.
give me thighs, or something with some real meat on it. no amount of any kind of flavoring is going to make up for how little there is.

(and as for sports bars; 'bah humbug' on them too, noisy boring loud pointless annoying places)

I dont know why anyone would want to eat a bunch of veins, tendons, ligaments.. I dont even eat drumsticks anymore.
IIRC the last time I had wings, there was an IKEA incident ..never again.

One of the most overrated objects is a hutch. So many people seem to have a hutch filled with nice dinnerware that no one uses because it's nice. What a waste of space and money.

i have thankfully never lived with anyone who was into that either. i do have shelves full of books. that i read.
and models that are too different in scale to fit on the layout and not be completely out of place.

i don't think i've ever lived anyplace that had room for a hutch.
if a wall doesn't have a window, its a place for bookshelves, desk, workbench, or model railroad.

I find that this is especially true of food.

Also, people never seem to factor in price when they go mad for something in a "you have to try this" sort of way. There's this burger place which is fast food but has a reputation of being much better quality than your average fast food place (not hard) and people are like "isn't it so much better than (burger king, mcdonalds etc)"

Well yeah, its about twice as good. But its three times as expensive and it cost me more than that just to get to one of the only two outlets in this city.

last week we went to Pf Changs, lol upscale china restaurant.
places was terribly crowded, seating sucked, my gf got a booth side seat, our table was wobbly, my single chair felt like it was about to break under me any second. table was to small, and crowded with crap candle and plant, candle exhaust makes my MS go haywire.. FML,
food was to salty, tasted like freezer section, they dont know how to make California roll proper, / .. I like my crab in pieces not mushy. ginger was missing how the do you not serve ginger with sushi?
to much whipping cream in my pina colada no lime or orange slice, lobster dish was not correct on the menu and my shiitake mushrooms were invisible..
thankfully was a gift card trip, so not a waste of cash to us...
