Duck Dynasty Might Be Over

Because a company which broadcasts shows about America's sassiest dogs and prettiest cakes has a significant percentage of it's owners who are gay. When I say my boss is too stupid to breathe on live tv, firing me isn't censorship. Neither is a company which has a large gay audience firing a guy who says an anti-gay thing, it's a business decision the company made.

I totally agree with big fucking deal. I didn't know about this until today and I roll my eyes when I read "Old duck hunting redneck has racist and homophobic views." Breaking fucking news.

Calling this censorship leads to a basic misunderstanding of what the first amendment is, it means no government interference with speech, not that anyone can say any crazy bullshit with no consequences from their peers or employers. If it was the opposite situation, and guy converted to radical Islam and started preaching about jihad, the opposite political current would want him removed from his program. And it would still not be censorship.

He was set up for fail to begin with. They asked him certain questions knowing the answer and what his response would be. He goes by the bible, Of course his views will lean that way.

They will end up, Just like every other show, Dumping a&n and going elsewhere. The turquoise cowboy dog the bounty hunter did and is doing just as good if not better.

This will only attract more viewers to watch when they do switch and both will make out with big $$. If a&e want to cater to the gay's so be it, DD will make a good chunk from the breach of contract(s) and go sign another for double.

 

It's such a relief to hear from someone who gets it.

I have honestly never watched it, Don't have satellite or cable at home. But the bits and pieces I have seen like the 50min rant, He looked to be in a church, Maybe he was giving a ??

I chalk the show up to NASCAR offseason replacement. But the guy has his right to say what he feels, Don't like it, Why did you ask him when you knew the outcome!

You might be pleased to know that a majority of 'media watchers' say that there are six main organisations not twenty. There are approx 7 news outlets in the UK and I hear a wide variety of views. Are you telling me in a country where the UK can fit into one of your lakes there is not a plethora of voices to be heard? I say BS.
It is in the interests of 'the media' to cater for a wide variety of people.

If you think 'Fox News' is pro Republican how do you square that Fox has some of most liberal shows on US TV? BTW, Fox news only has a couple of million viewers.
What most of us see are the snippets from their opinion shows on liberal comedy shows...
I would say Fox News can't be so easily pigeonholed - but I accept it is not the same as the other main news outlets.

Perhaps watch a lot more TV.

 

I understand why they would can the guy. Especially after actually seeing some of the shit dude was saying (When I first posted in here I was led by my coworkers to believe that he only quoted the Bible and said that he doesn't agree with homosexuality). But what I think is silly is that they paid the guy to be himself on camera...because his/their antics are apparently entertaining enough for a hit show. They're beliefs on the subject wasnt any secret, it was already apparent before he ever said anything. Hell, I've never even seen the show but I could have told you how they feel about homosexuality judging only by Internet memes and their merchandise that I've seen on the shelves. Their backwoods way of life is what sold the TV show, it's the reason people watch it. Saying those things just seems like a part of the character that they built around him. I don't blame A&E for getting rid of him, I just think it's a bit Hypocritical of them to punish the guy for playing the role that they paid him to portray.

 

Fox News and Fox, while both owned by News Corp, are run by different people and operate by different philosophies. Fox News is definitely pretty far too the right, even going as far as to support PACS of republican candidates and post their phone numbers.

I think your statement would have been more accurate to say, "21 Century Fox, as a broadcasting company, cannot be so easily pigeonholed."

 

I do watch the show. Everyone else on the show is cool. Phil Robertson turned my stomach long before this event took place. The guy seems to think everything he says is pure gold and he is very close minded. I just watched an episode where they hired a pet photographer to come out and take pictures of him and his wife with their dogs. He was a total ass hat to the photographer the entire time and I think it was because the guy may have been gay. Not to stereotype but the guy had that vibe but he was a total pro and handled Phil's bullshit like a champ.

This isn't the first time he's gotten stupid during an interview either. He was on a morning show not long ago and was asked about fans showing up at the shop due to the popularity of the show and he went on a tangent about being armed and ready to shoot it out and people better not show up with ideas of raping our women and it just went on and on and he sounded like an asshole. I'm sure the fans are obnoxious but so far there has been no attempts to rape their women so his rant was not really appropriate.

As far as his comments about people bowing down to lizards and such...where does he get this shit? I know many pagans and have yet to see that happen. It's this kind if preaching coming from Christian pulpits (the guy is a minister) that causes people to hate the ignorance pumped out of that religion and it's ignorant and proud ambassadors like Phil Robertson.

 

If they are in breach of contract, I'm sure the duck dynasty crew can and will sue them. Otherwise, I don't see how A&E did anything wrong. They are a private company and therefore they have the right to end their contract for any reason they see fit - TV networks do it all the time for reasons generally tied into ratings. Businesses see the bottom line and the bottom line is the network is worried about advertisers pulling their money out because of this. Its the exact same reason Paula Deen was dropped from food network or whatever network dropped her.

what I said above pretty much applies here too. TV networks can choose not to renew a contract with an actor for any reason.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean you're guaranteed a platform to spew your stupid opinion. If that were the case anyone who has ever tried to publish anything could cry censorship because no one wanted to provide them a platform for their words.

 

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the Kingdom of God...

The pictures of them and their families BEFORE this manufactured "hillbilly lifestyle" got on the boob tube are indicative of the fantasy world of TV and those that will believe anything. I have a beard, If that were the case, They signed their first contract 2-3 years before the show started filming. If you think those pic's are real, Good for you, I know I can find a pic of Michael Jackson when he was black and white, Its the same fucking thing.

In the end, Who cares. They are going to walk away with more money either way and there are other networks ready to start filming.
