Apparently all different kinds of political figures are jumping on the bandwagon. Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty (one of the most popular shows on basic cable) made several offensive comments about homosexuals and a few other things as well.

A&E is suspending him from the show and the rest of the cast is threatening not to return until he is put back on the show.

    Thoughts?

I didn't know what this show even was until a few days ago, I thought that it was about duck hunters.

Never watched the show -- looks like some redneck shit geared toward hillbillies to me. That aside, people are entitled to their opinion regardless of how badly certain minority groups are offended by it. Many gay people seem to think only their opinion is allowed when it comes to forcing beliefs up people's butts (no pun intended).

I agree with Asmodean, some coworkers were watching that at work one night so I had to hear it. I will not be saddened if it stops airing.

Apparently it's about a family who got rich when one of them invented a duck whistle? I don't even know. Maybe they do hunt ducks.

What exactly did this person say against gay people? It's not anything I consider to be newsworthy, so forgive me for being out of the loop.

EDIT: Nevermind, I read the article. My opinion: big fucking deal. The guy sounds like a moron anyway, as is anyone who is "offended" by such stupid, asinine shit.

    Next tabloid "news" story...

Its basically a redneck rich fantasy.

As for his comments. I don't like anyone who presumes to know how God or Jesus feels about something.

I don't really care about what someone might have said in that show. It is just another cheap piece of reality crap, no need to expect more from it than it has offered: insight in the life of a bunch of fellow nobodies who think they are the shit.

It wasn't said on the show. Part of it was in GQ (magazine)...
The station that airs the show essentially fired him from the show (indefinite suspension) ...

    In a bad mood today?

No, just was in this thread so thought why not give my 2 cents. Ok, I should have said I don't care about what someone of that show might have said. The reason I think it is not a loss that it might be over is primarily that they're another bunch of lucky people wallowing in their own lifestyle and being obnoxious how cool they think they are, not that they might have said some anti-gay rubbish.

Yes, for some reason it was broadcasted here as well... I understand why there are so much of these reality shows though. It is relatively cheap and easy to follow a bunch of people on their daily routines and edit the material back to a few hours with a voice over so it make sense story-wise.

Ok. It's just I've not noticed 'wallowing in their own lifestyle and being obnoxious how cool they think they are'

It is just another "Reality" tv show - and I'm sure it is 99% staged. They are getting free publicity now. I'd say the producers instructed the writers and directors to havethe redneck say that, although he might have wanted to say that crap anyway.

All he has to do is apologize, and like every other celeb that has made similar comments, he will be forgiven by some, overlooked by others. In the end, no one will forget, but it will be old news before too long.

The entertainment industry figured out that they were missing out on revenue from a huge market...the closed minded, can't think for themselves, hates everyone that is not like them, doesn't want to know more than what their parents and or religious leaders have told them suckers. I'm sure there are many who are reading the news about his remarks with thier heads bobbing up and down and tongues hanging out to the side thinking, "Oh my hero", but for the most part, most people will know it's just publicity.

When televisions became ever cheaper and the credit industry boomed, this market was opened up. Now there are untold amounts of dollars generated by people who now spend time with Jerry Springer and Duck Dynasty rather than spend time with their family or friends or even maintaining their property. Every different class in u.s. does it. I'm not picking on just one group. This is just the latest market to be exploited.

I'd like to add that I don't believe that everyone that watches these shows is a backward redneck, I'm just saying that shows like these are tailored to them. Others certainly see some entertainment value in them.

I just hope this publicity stunt backfires, people see reality shows(at least most of them) for what they are, and go back to living their own lives.

    Very plausible!

I could have watched that in a preview too :p, but yes it is better to base a conviction about a show on an actual episode.

I forgot to mention this in my last post.

I agree 100%. They are living their fantasy through DD. All they have to do is invent something and then they can sit around and act stupid the rest of their lives. Ah paradise.

    Which episode? [IMG]

Seriously, I've only seen one or two episodes, and not all the way through.
    So you could be right.
