yeah i think alcohol is a valid excuse for some. not an excuse to use over and over but it can cover some of the small things, like a fifteen hooker gangbang.:D

Never. If you can't handle your liquor either man it up and keep your emotions in check or don't drink.
We've all been sloppy drunk. God knows I have in the past.
At this point in my life I don't have respect for people who get puking drunk in front of others or are angry drunks. It's not 'cool' to consume mass amounts of alcohol. It takes no skill and does not make you special. It makes you look very immature.

    Yeah.

Well anyways, its a valid excuse for murder, rape, child molesting, cop beating, auto theft, terrorism, and fecal smearing. So, yeah.

I would say no, cause when I act like a wanker when I'm drunk, I can always remember making the decision to

    I voted no.

It is an excuse for people to do what they wish to.

Want to really know a person, get them drunk and sit back sober and read it.......it is who they are at the time and where they are walking.

Does anyone else though see a difference between a one time event and a continuing pattern?

I don't know- different things- say, someone who rarely drinks and doesn't know their limits well and gets way too drunk once and does something stupid, yet never acts like that again...... compared to someone who continualy uses "I was drunk" as excuses for behavior.

if my partner got drunk and hit me once (not that he ever would do) I would find it difficult to make excuses, wouldn't you?

Yeah, but I wasn't really talking about physical abuse. And I also never meant that the person should just be "excused" from whatever action- but that the fact that they were that drunk and aren't usually like that would be taken into consideration, along with things like the severity of the act.

well it depends what that one time thing is, a guy getting drunk and raping someone would have a difficult time with the defense of 'one time' in court

Eh... maybe. Being drunk does lower inhibitions and stuff though. I've seen people get wasted and hit on every person in the room in an obnoxious type of way -
yet those same people when sober are quiet, polite, and reserved.

Most who drink in this manner are not one offs........there is a pattern. That is the pattern.

Can you trust anyone who pours booze down all the time. In my opinion not on a general level as they are hiding with that.....their own demon. Not yours.

well yea...the line between a one time thing and a pattern is like drawing a line in the sand right next to the shore as the ocean tide washes up - it gets washed away or altered...

people have to be careful in saying what a one time thing is vs. a pattern. and its a slippery slope on what that one time thing is, like you said, rape...thats inexcusable no matter you being drunk or sober...no reason for it.
