I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, not too long ago now. But with my lifestyle, and my weight gain, as I got older, I did have some advanced notice, I should point out.

That is why, a few years back, long before the diagnosis, I would drink a lot of coffee.

Coffee. Some say it may prevent type II diabetes. And I must say, it certainly may have delayed its onset for me (as I said, I have been in danger of it for some time now).

Anyways, there are no magic cures, and no quick fixes when it comes to something a serious as this. And I realize that. I am seeing a doctor for it, and he does have me no Metformin too. But I have just one question.

Is there any benefit for people with type 2 diabetes, drinking coffee AFTER they have been given the diagnosis? As I said, I am under medical care, and I am slowly trying to change my lifestyle too.

    Well?

My Dad had diabetes. I wouldn't think coffee without sugar in it would be an issue. Tobacco and alcohol are problems, as well as sugary soda. My dad lost a leg, he smoked and drank. My neighbor just lost a toe due to this disease.

Lose weight and eat healthy. Coffee should be the least of your concerns. If I get diabetes I will stop smoking tobacco. It seems cannabis may be ok for diabetes. People who smoke cannabis tend to have better weight and sugar levels. Cannabis is also calorie free and better than alcohol for diabetes.

Caffeine CAN pose a problem in controlling blood glucose in people with blood sugar issues.

A study from 2008 has shown that people with Type II diabetes who drink the equivalent of four cups of coffee a day have up to an 8% increase in blood glucose levels.

Previous studies have also shown a relation to caffeine consumption and blood sugar dysregulation in certain individuals.

I doubt drinking coffee in moderation will do any harm, but I am sure it varies from person to person.

    I'm type 1..so I couldn't prevent it!
But over the years, I've found a lot of things that help, and a lot that don't!
Get familiar with carbs! Leave out sugary drinks, forget fizzy drinks, look up your liver and soda drinks!
Go caffeine free with coffee, tea etc, makes your heart race!
And walk. Look after your feet, your eyes..your skin! And become a diabetic geek.
Also, find a diabetes forum, no one knows better than people who have done it!
    Good luck, and don't worry.

Diabetes.co.UK is my friend. Look in your ap store.

Some people drink coffee partly because of the caffeine. If you drink like 2 cups in the morning and one in the afternoon I don't see the problem (also not for a diabetic)? Moderation is almost always key :)

The problem with diabetes, is your risk is high for heart disease, so you have to look after your heart..caffeine is not good for that, and tbh decaffe coffee is good now, and tea is too!
