When did dreadlocks become popular with hippies? I think dreadlocks are the ultimate hippie hair style, but whenever I see pictures of '60's hippies they never have dreads... why?
Jamaican influence hadn't begun yet. The late 60's wave was basically white, middle class, Beatle inspired. The late 50's wave was known as beat, also white, colleged class, Kerouac inspired. Jamaican influences arrived in the mid 70's
dreads came in with bob marley and other jamacan singers. before that, hippies generally wore their hair long, sometimes in braids, ponytails etc.
my friend dreaded my hair a few weeks ago but she didnt do it right and they looked really bad so i took them out...i think im going to do them again...my hair got so thin from taking out the other ones though...i just found this little bald spot....so if i do them this time theres no turning back..and if i did take them out i would have like no hair left.lol..peace and love
My dad loved dreads, and even though he was a white boy , he had them back in the 60's, much to the dismay of his family. I had them in the 80's, and dyed each one a different color. I miss my dreads! But, my hair is knee length now, and I'm happy with it. Love men with dreads!
but that's the wonderful thing about having dreads - you CAN be a lazy bastard! and you never have to really worry about them!
Yep you can be lazy that's why I got them.. Couldn't stand brushing my hair after I had it short for so long.. dreads are just perfect =) dose anyone have pics of their dreadies?
