dr bronners 18 in 1 magic soaps or the baking soda deep cleanse are most poopular some preffer lushh bars which do have sls in em so isnt my 1st choice the soaps not so much a big deal as long as its not conditioning and dont leave heavy residues if u use dr b dilute it 12-1 or so its very concentrated and as far as elastics..no dont use em just toos thge hair in a hat and forget bout it the sectioninbt will happen on its own..or alteenaTIVELY FORCE A FEW BEADS ON TO HOLD SECTIONS TOGETHER WHILE THEY KNOT if u wanna see natural dreads that locked up in weeks look at dylanchick0113 look at windcriesmary i think theres others im not remembering now.. ofcourse thats not typical with natural, more take a few months then a few weeksw but the end results are healthy strong undammaged dreads that have a more organic look and feel and yea callie4strings a more haphazard staggard less strick sectioning when backcombing will eliminate much of that checlkerboard pattern i reffered to too often they presectiojn into exact 1 inch squares insrtesd of just grabbing random bits and going at it its that rigid exact squareness that causes the silly checkertboard look i was just looking through dreadheadhq pics trying to find a clear example of what ii meant and saw a few that sorta showed it but not clear enough to be worthwhile ..but god they got alotta ugly ass dreads on there..i hate to say any dreads are ugly but they really are anyway that checkerboard look can be avoided if u do choose to backcomb by not pre-sectioning in squares inste4ad just grab some hair that feels right and go at it
