I have tried other stuff though. I'd love to be able to try Dr Bronners or something a lot cheaper than DreadheadHQ but I can't get hold of it. I did go down to my local health shop but the shampoos they sold there wouldn't lather up and get my hair clean. If you could recommend something else I can try, please go ahead:)

Next time I run out of shampoo I will definately be trying this. I eventually found a store on eBay that sold Dr Bronners. Cost me £8 in total which is still £3 cheaper than DreadheadHQ (I remember reading their ingredients not so long ago and thought 'that's not natural') So looking forward to trying that. A lot of people rave about Dr Bronners on some dread groups on face book. Looking hella forward to using scented products again!

    its not £3 cheaper
its £36 cheaper since u dilute it 12-1
if the bittles 36 oz u get 423 oz after dilution
its way way way cheaper and more natural then dreadheadhq stuff
if u read the ingredients its the most pure mot natural and best for the envoronment soap out there..pure enough that u could drink it even (dont though)

You can get Dr Bronners off amazon.co.uk for like £4.50 for a half litre bottle, seems pretty good.

    I ordered some today :)

hahahahahaha! That had me in stitches. Out of stupidity and curiosity what do you use to dilute it with? A cup or something?

Maybe im just one of the miracles, but I started my dreads with DHHQ, I use the shampoo and the locking accelerator to maintain, and all I get is compliments all day about how great they look. My dreads are a year old and are rock hard, I don't think I could get them out if I tried for weeks. I stopped using the wax (just used it in the beginning) but why would putting wax in your hair sound like a good idea anyway? Im actually really happy with their products.... but I guess that's just me.

yeah the locking accelarator is the same stuf that rock climbers use to grip up their hands before climbing. Its called Rosin. if your really into the accelarator...you can buy the rosin at any outdoorsy store for way cheaper...not that I reccomend it or anything...eeew

Just found this on the dread balling part. Somewhat contradictory. Glad you guys opened my eyes to this company:

Continue to roll this hair until it knots into a small ball. If you are having trouble make sure the hair is oil free. Wax does not help this process either. You will use wax soon but not yet. Right now clean dry hair is what you want. Clean dry hair sprayed with locking accelerator given a chance to dry will make knotting easier and if you have Lock Peppa this is the time to break it out. lock peppa on dreadlocksPeppa will make quick work of loose hair.

Wax is evil stuff....trust me. My first set of dreads were ruined by using wax. I used it as directed for the first 6 months or so. By the time my dreads were about 2 1/2 years old, they were smelly, mouldy, dirty, sticky messes that barely resembled dreadlocks. When I cut them off, I found wax and mould in the middle of all my locks.
This time around, I am wax free and they look, smell and feel better than the waxed crap that I had the first time around and they definitely locked up faster without wax.
Goin' on 5 years now for this set of dreadlocks, no mouldy smell or greasy feel....mmmm, much better. :D

As for the rest of their products: I go by the rule of thumb, if I can't pronounce the ingredients or if any of the ingredients sound like it was made in a lab, I don't use it. I trust Mother Earth over scientists for my dreadcare.

Try using herbal tea soaks and sprays. Plants are a great ally for healthy dreadlocks. Some of my favourites are: rosemary, nettles, thyme, peppermint, and chamomile.

I'm really glad I found this site before starting my dreads. I had even bought a kit right before I found this site. (knotty boy... ick). So while I waited for it to ship, I read up and got informed. After learning the dangers of those products I figured I'd just use the comb and soap and pre-dread stuff. The shampoo left a disgusting waxy coating in my hair (I combed my hair out while it was wet after washing and the bristles are covered in a nasty waxy coating... from one washing!!! by the way, that was almost 2 weeks ago, and the comb is still nasty, that just proves what it would do to ones hair.) the comb was terrible as well, so I used one I bought a year earlier in preparation for dreads I never went through with. In the end, I wasted money on the kit which angered me, but I'm so glad I learned enough not to put any of that wax in my hair. I'm very happy with how clean they are and how they are turning out with just backcombing and Dr. B's.

In response to weather they have dreads at dreadhead HQ, I was watching vids on fixing loose hairs at the roots and found one from them, and the guy has some pretty good looking dreads, but one can only imagine how waxy they might be. This has already been said by spacechive though...
