Wow - this thread's taking off! My only issue is that I'm EXTREMELY broke right now (psst, tell your friends about my website!) so coming up with even a couple extra bucks for postage might be hard. Most of you seem to live overseas from me (here in the bad old states) so that becomes more difficult... I'll see what I can work out. And MadEye, your beads are nice! Are you carving them from scratch, or burning into a pre-fab wood bead?
I've just spent a lovely afternoon in the woods making the beads i've promised to swap with some of you. It was great fun I made more than I needed to, so I might sell some on etsy. I'll send them out tomorrow, and include with each bead the name of the tree it is from I didn't even cut my hand with the craft knife this time!
Katie - That's so neat that your going to include the tree names. That really personalizes the beads! I bought some Fimo clay to make beads with today. I also bought some plain wooden beads that i'm going to burn patternes onto.
just to show you some of the beads i made today: they were hand carved in the woods they are made of red eucalyptus wood, which is one of the best in the forest for carving small shapes - it's difficult to carve, but the shape holds well and does not collapse easily, unlike softer woods. the bark has a pretty cinnamon tint to it. the tree that this stick comes from lives near a river in the south of england and it is a very happy, smiley tree sitting underneath it i got occasional hints of the beautiful eucalyptus smell from its waxy green leaves. it's a lovely happy tree and i hope you all enjoy the beads when i send them
Hey mamaboogie, would you like to trade some beads with muah? I'm going to make some fimo beads, and I also have some wooden beads that I'm going to burn ... I have some small ones too, cause I know your daughters locks must be tiny.
We'd love to trade with you! Most of her dreads are about as big around as a pencil, but we have lots of beads in all different sizes and colors.
