Yes its quite sad Skip...... I saw a DOORS record @ a thrift store last week and I just left it there..... THE NEXT TIME I WENT IT WAS GONE!! (Teaches me not to leave stuff I might want) Lucky you got to see them in concert!!
I still have both Doors-3some vinyl albums, & they're great stuff: sort of a jazz/Tex-Mex/Norteno hybrid (I've read that Manzarek attended the Chicago Jazz Conservatory). Both records had some great session players, including a guy named Francisco Aquabella, who played in a salsa-of-sorts band called Malo, which featured Jorge Santana, Carlos's brother.
I was @ that store today and saw a 2 record DOORS set and got it!! (Wierd Scenes inside the gold mine (Its the one with 'riders on the storm' on it))
The Doors were one of the few bands I loved that my parents couldn't stand. My father simply forbade me from playing "The End" while he was in the house. Which of course was his right. He at least tried to listen to most everything else I had. At any rate, I always thought The Doors were one of the few groups where the arrangements actually reinforced what the songs said, as opposed to just being a cool backing track. That's a very difficult thing to achieve, but I think it's the essence of what music should be and do. The Doors did it better than almost anyone.
This is heartbreaking. :c i hate loosing such amazing people. even if i've never met them, it still feels like a loss...

Still, there's a considerable difference between, "Mother, I want to.....aaaaargh!" and "Mother I want to.....FUCK YOU ALL NIGHT!"
For anyone interested - the NPR show 'Fresh Air' has a great interview with Ray where he is at the piano thru the whole thing - doing a musical accompaniment. Some of it is just random walking of the keys, but a lot of it is him breaking down the progression of some of the doors songs. Really amazing and gives a great listen to just how talented of a keys player he really was. Some of the music he did with the Doors might have a whole different origin than you expected. This was a truly talented musician with a real gift and grasp of music history. You can download the podcast of Fresh Air for free on Itunes or from the NPR Fresh Air website. Just type Ray Manzarek in the search - or also - it is one of the newer posted podcasts.
Im gonna listen to it again right now Granny and pay closer ATTN to the words and see.... EDIT: Hmmmmmmmmm,Ahhhh .. I guess i can see why your dad didnt like it!
I guess he filled in the "aaaargh" himself .. lol. And don't forget the patricide. Yep I believe it's on YouTube, also. Or if not that particular interview, others that are also very interesting.
Another door opened and walked through. An era IS ending, but that doesn't mean we have to forget it happened. We can continue this vibe.
Tell me about it. Pisses me off to hear it. Skrillex takes a quote from an early Morrison interview, in which he's talking about future music. So, Jim was talking about Skrillex, in a way. But that's not necessarily a good thing.
