I would rather vote for the first Hussein than the third Bush.

If that's not satire, it should be. A solid reminder of the limitations of the right wing populist mind. Anyone who bases their political judgements on such criteria really should have their voting rights stripped....

    I could not disagree more.

Voter suppression is a two way street. You shouldn't even joke about it.

I think a public shaming would be better.

I should joke about it because humour suppression isn't too pretty a street either. Of course public shaming would be better. But joking apart, you do have to ask yourself, are all political judgements equal? Are all positions equally valid? We live in systems of one citizen one vote where every vote is of equal importance, (at least in theory, the electoral college undermines that), but is this right? Are all citizens equally qualified to make informed decisions for the good of the nation? This is not to construct an argument for stripping away voting rights, after all, where would you stop, how would you determine - that's simply not viable or ethical. But it's important to ask those sorts of questions....

which is exactly what the founders of this country did. Thus, we have institutional checks on the power of voters. Pure democracy would be purely horrendous. The primary purpose of voting is not to set policy, but rather to serve as a check on institutional power.

Sorry I pissed on your joke, but it wasn't the best moment to make it.

I somehow doubt the poor humour of one Brit is really going to influence the outcome of the US elections....
