The other day in FB someone was selling fireplace mantelpieces for $20 each. They were quickly sold . I would have paid $80 each. This is not the first time I have seen someone sell themselves short.. A widow in town who did not have much money had to have a chimney pulled down took the bricks to the tip. She could have easily cleaned them up and sold them. Not so long ago a new owner of an old house decided to pull down the front fence that had been made with old cast iron balustrade panels. He gave them away on FB. I would have bidded up to $400 at an auction. Anyway, the point is don't sell yourself short. Just because something is old it does not mean it is worthless. Live auctions are better for bulky items. You might get a better deal on E-bay for smaller items. Old vehicle parts are better to auction on E-bay than a live auction. A special group on FB could also be the go.
Elderly folk who have lived with something most of their lives seldom place a true value on their stuffThe moral of the story is phone a reputable Auctioneer and ask if you may send them an image of the item you have and if they wouldn't mind giving you a ballpark figure for its value.
